Off to Vegas for a weeks debauchery at the end of May and watching that Secret World of Magic show on Sky TV the other week they showed a bit about “The Showgirls Of Magic” at the San Remo hotel.
Assuming I can get a drink in there that’s, beer, showgirls and magic all in one venue which does sound rather appealing. However, I was wondering if any has seen / knows anything about it? As the beer and showgirls are in abundance all over I’m interested to know if from a purely magic point of view whether its worth having a look at?

if you get the chance go and see "the Amazing Jonathan" at the Riviera hotel, a VERY funny show but definately NOT for kids!

plus if you do go to see him could you get me a copy of his dvd that he sells after the show (didnt get a chance to get one when i was there:( ) this is a serious bit by the way.. ive been trying to get hold of the dvd since i got home and had no luck

I don't know about the showgirls of magic (hence this really doesn't answer your question at all), but I would seriously try and get to the Mac King show at Harrahs. It's one of the best magic shows I've seen.

yes part timer... thats the very one... trouble is i tried emailing him about paying by paypal or non us funds and postage costs to the UK. i didnt get any reply so i guess he either doesnt read his emails ro he doesnt ship to the uk, which was why whenever i see anyone going to vegas i ask them if they'll get me it

I saw the showgirls of magic about 4 years ago. It is a small excellent 'off strip' show.

They do two shows a night, the later show has the girls do the odd topless dance. Americans may find this risque but its nothing different to what you see in the Sun. I went with my girlfriend and despite the 'warnings' when we bought the tickets we both wondered what all the fuss was about.

I would say that it is mainly a comedy show but the girls do some very good illusions but nothing you haven't see before. There is a fair degree of audience participation (I was called up) and the whole show is excellent. You leave feeling like you have joined an elite club having seen something most people will never find.

Despite the fact that it is not one of the Vegas blockbuster shows it has clearly been put together by people who really understand entertainment and I left Vegas thinking it was one of the best shows I saw there.

The 'low budget' feel to the show is actually what I found most compelling and there is a lesson here for all budding magicians. The tricks were good, the girls were attractive, but what made it work so well was that it was incredibly well scripted.

A mate (non-magician) of mine went a few months ago, and he though the magic was decent, but not spectacular - unlike the girls.

I reckon that this makes for great mis-direction - who's going to watch for sleight of hand, when you can watch semi-naked attractive young ladies instead...

I should add that from what I remember, the dancing bits of the show were seperate parts of the magic parts of the show!

The misdirection, from what I remember, did not involve their state of undress.

I should add that there was one gag they did that I keep meaning to try with 4 friends:

They got four of us on chairs each sitting 90 degrees to eachother and the chairs were sideways to us. We sat with our knees strictly at 90 degrees.

They they got us to wrap our arms around the adjacent person. Then they removed all the chairs and we remained sitting. It was actually quite difficult to make us collapse. I was one of the four 'volunteers' so I didn't see the effect, but the audience loved it.

I'm sure a few practice goes with a few friends can replicate this. A fun thing to do at a dinner party perhaps?

I saw the Showgirls of Magic show and can say it was ok, mostly standard stuff and of course topless. I actuall y enjoyed more the comedians on the show than I did the magic. The showroom it is in was very small and not real comfortable.
One of the highlights of my visit to Las Vegas was going to an off the beaten path magic shop ( I believe off Industrial road ) and I cannot remember the name of it but it is owned by Earl Chaney ( grandson of Lon Chaney ) I believe you can find the name of it in the yellow pages, go there..Not only magic but Earl can tell you some stories. A real nice guy..
