whats in a name?

Postby drew » Apr 13th, '05, 12:45

Just wondering how much a stage name is needed.

My real name is Andrew Cunliffe, hardly magical I know, however everyone refers to me as Drew. I am hoping to take my magic more seriously in performing and wondered whether Drew would be enough or if I should don a "mysterious, magical" sounding second name.... (or maybe one that just sounds better than Cunliffe!!)

Anyone have any suggestions/comments?????

Do you intend concentrating on magic for children, card work at a table, stage, table hopping etc.? IMHO, I'd add something for a children's show but probably not for adults. I'd be interested to hear others' opinions.

IMHO, if you are a close-up performer then the Close-up magic of Andrew Cunliffe is fine but if your a Childrens entertainer then I would suggest that you think of something magical that children can relate too, it doesn't have to be anything to do with your own name, but how about Gandalf the Magician, very topical consiering Harry Potter is all the rage right now! :)

Computer games don't affect kids; I mean if Pac-Man affected us as kids, we'd all be running around in darkened rooms, munching magic pills and listening to repetitive electronic music. - Kristian Wilson, Nintendo, Inc, 1989..
