It's somehow fallen out of the back of the draw and slid underneath it. Try taking all the drawers out, and it'll be on the floor but inside the chest of draws. It'll be covered in dust and with it you'll also find at least one of the following:

some old (maybe foreign) currency,
a sweet wrapper that you'll remember eating a couple of years ago,
one lone sock or childs glove
something sticky (best if you wash your hands straight away)
a dead spider
a bit of paper with some numbers or a name you don't recognise.

If it isn't there, you will still find either some or none of those items but you'll feel a great sense of disappointment and a little tired and weary.
