Yo Mark - apart from getting older and more frustrated with life, the universe and everything, I'm fine! Nice to see you back, do tell all about your magic mystery tours!

Thank You for the warm welcome back

I was working as normal for a while here, plodding along in the casino (croupier, not gambler) and was saving for a nice holiday in Greece, with my Greek friends whom I met from college 5 years ago.

They asked me to go over and stay with them again... so I did

I was only there for a month. The magic, I had bought more and more in England, learnt it all, and took it with me. (Paul Harris' 3 Volume book, "Art of Astonishment" "Banachek's PSI Series 4 Volume DvD" )

Not to bore you all, but the village in Greece only has a population of 7000 or so, and its more a farming village in the Peloponisse mountains. They have seen Uri Geller once on tv, and HEARD of David Copperfield, but never seen any real close up magic.

So for the month I was talk of the town, and I'm trying to put a video together of all the reactions and magic I got from them. I cant describe in words the buzz I got from getting such reactions, nor the reactions themselves. I was lacking confidence here in England about performing, but now I hope to be out there performing every night!!!! Not to sound like a cliche, but its changed my life now!!!

So thats it really... worked loads here and took a nice long break, and now back to the grindstone :( lol

I was in process of joining the circle last time we spoke, and even that never happened, but thats kinda back on track now anyways hopefully.

Speak soon :)

I am planning to take a year off or at least a couple of months to concentrate on magic as well -> this is definitely convincing me more and more... Got to finish my acoustics degree first though :)

Hi Mark, I am fairly new on here myself and didn't know you before but welcome back to the forum, I just thought I would add that I firmly believe if you want to go out and do commercial magic, you just have to do that too! Get out and do it, you won't regret it!

Regards

Jack

Thanks Jack... and I have the bad habit of forgetting to sign in too hehe :P

I feel my magic is good, i mean anyone can learn tricks, but the performance is what people remember with it. Its just for me, linking the magic together is tougher, rather than saying, heres a trick, heres another trick an so on.

I applied to the Wolverhampton Circle of magic, so I'll have to audition soon, and hopefully, they'll steer me in the right direction and give me some help on linking the tricks creativley.

I definatley want to do commercial magic, and make it a full time job.

Do you perform yourself? I'd like to see a magician, who I would be able to have a chat with after the show, and let it spark my imagination

I am going mad here....I know, I know, I am not going mad, I am mad

Can those posts be deleted???

Hi Mark,

I've been performing as a close-up magician in the "real world" for about 8 or 9 yrs, (I can't remember exactly when I started) maybe a bit longer...not important, but I just love it, and get a huge buzz out of performing so close to the audience.

I love having a bit of banter with them and I believe entertainment is the name of the game, I think the audience want to be entertained and want to enjoy the evening and it's nice to be part of that while doing something that I enjoy very much.

I also think that it is ok to learn all the knuckle breaking slights, but keep those for the magic club and in my humble opinion, it is best to stick to good commercial magic for the fee paying audiences.

Don't get the wrong idea, I believe difficult slights have their place in commercial magic, but I feel the entertainment of the audience, should be taken into account when you choose the effects for your act, and sometimes the simplest of methods will suit one occasion and a more difficult method will suit another occasion. Just dont sacrifice the entertainment value for the sake of a more knuckle busting routine!

That's enough of me going on for now....best of luck with your audition and I am sure you will be fine, If I can help in any way don't hesitate to ask! :)

Regards

Jack

Hi and Thanks Dat :)

Jack, I know what you mean about the knuckle breaking slights. I was on holiday, and the friends I was staying with kept telling me to show the ones that were easy to do. I kept saying, no, they're too simple, people will work them out.

Was I wrong? Yes, I was. Some of my simpler stuff, was amazing, even silly stuff, like ash into the closed fist etc, and simple forces, then mindreading etc, that i thought i would never use, has come to life!!

Thanks for the advice anyways, an I'll keep you all posted about the Magic Circle audition, I might hire you out one day Jack, pay your hourly rate for some lessons ;-) :P
