Struggling with an effect? Any tips (without giving too much away!) you'd like to share?

I like the idea, the argument it might offend someone though is just nit picking .(Mate who is currently in the RAMC served two tours of iraq)

Don't use flash paper because people die in house fires (had a fire in dini towers once)
Don't use prosthetic digits people might have lost a finger (uncle lost a finger in a accident )

What every you do you going to offend some one, pendulums offend people, playing cards offend people too. Jerry Sadowitz offends everyone.

Do a bit of research in your back story and do the effect. Anyone gets offended that is life.

I am master of misdirection, look over there.

We are not falling out young Welshy, we are debating, I think farlsy is an idiot he thinks I am one. We are just talking about who is the bigger idiot.

I thought magicians got hired for Entertainment. Not to offend.
You're arguments apply, as I said earlier, equally to rape. That doesn't justify a routine on it and a cantankerous and inconsiderate attitude.
I don't know enough facts about this war routine to tell if it can be done sensitivley and appropriatley, but I'm sure it can be done. But that sensitivity and propriety are important.
Yes, some people will be offended by everything. 'Oh, he is an Atheist, that means he is intolerant and Richard Dawkins like', 'Oh, he didn't pick me' 'Oh, He is walking like a tw*t, I'm offended'. But a routine about war, is still a sensitive area.

And you are?

Ever seen Sadowitz? (google if you must). You will offend people no matter what you do. I wouldn't worry about it.

By the way your argument is rather redundant now conscription has ended people have a choice to fight in wars they sign up for the army , war is in the job description, I will gloss over you keep going on about rape though.

What ever your patter , props or routine someone wont like it. War happens so its a part of life lets not just sweep it under the carpet.

This is my point. Thank you.
Derisive insenstivity, is not a virtue. Perhaps for comedy or satire, but I just have these weird sickly inhibitions which plauge me, which tell me that war is not a joke. Just a feeling, y'know? No. Of course not. Stupid little me.
I'll f*ck off now.
But first, a question... perhaps I'm missing something 'cause I'm thick, but what has conscription got to do with this?

Anyway, I'll go off and occupy my empty little head with a little History, and laugh my ass off at hiroshima, ww1 and 2, mcarthyism, the creel commission, the slaughter in vietnam and the idea that Iraq was suddenly going to take over the world.. (actually, that last one is quite funny)

Oh, no.. I can't do that, Im trying to sweep it under the carpet now, I remember... In fact, thanks for reminding me, to try and not sweep it under the carpet I'll go out and impetuously entertain people with the idea of millions of years of men splattering each other's brains, guts and all over each other, and it will be ok, because at least most people will be impervious to my nausiousnes and my complete ignorance of any dignity. Thank you. I might as well make a routine about rape whilst im at it... ohh, sorry..

Of course war is not a joke, but that doesn't mean it shouldn't be talked about.
I am not going to sit here and explain every little nuance of the patter used just to make sure it is satisfactory to the majority of people on here, but suffice to say not one of the people I performed the routine for tonight saw anything offensive in it, including the pensioners who took part in WW2.
I am also not going to list here the vast amount of research I have done on various aspects of research I have partaken outside of this forum towards making sure it is as inoffensive to anybody as possible. Surely the fact that I have asked for legitimate information should tell you I am wanting to be as correct with this train of thought as possible. Rather than just plodding straight forward willy nilly not giving a care and a thought about the consequences.

But to say that people do not find tales of war or war themed entertainment a viable topic is simply assinine. Otherwise Andy McNab would be out of work and Oliver Stone would not have anywhere near as much money as he does now.

Mandrake, feel free to lock this. I have the information I requested, there is nothing else to be gained from this thread.

Exactly. And I notice no shortage of toy guns in shops, with parents willing to buy them. The very fact that one can buy fashion accessory dog tags further proves the point. There may be one or two war movies around too, I think...

Is war fun and sexy? No.
Can war themes entertain? Obviously.
