I think the main idea of actually beating a guy with 3 card monte is to simply do what Mathew Broddrick did in War Games. "Not play the game." Sounds like he did a really bad job at it.

Depends on the routine.

I'm calm, I also knew my response would come out wrong. I am not trying to say Kai handled it wrong. I'm not sure there is a right or a wrong here. I just would have handled it differently. I'm often too hard on other magicians. Especially when it comes to illusions acts, animal acts, mentalism and anyone who does the dancing cane, or linking rings, (they go on way too long).

It is all good in the hood.

And yes, if the magi in question was any good at a three card monte he should not have been caught out, as there are so many 'outs' in the three card monte.

I don't think he was telling you to calm down, its a reference to the Harry Enfield scousers. "Alrite, carm down carm down, mate!"

I just noticed that you're from my hometown of Buxton, Kai. Which pub is your local? Next time I drink there I'll avoid any old scousers asking to show me their monte! (innuendo bingo)

Well it used to be The Eagle but it's now under new management so I've transfered to The Swan, which is handy because I can see it from my living room window. So it's easily within staggering distance!

Haha, "Swan 'till one" me and my mates always say. Last to close, first to empty, its a classy venue. Never fancied The Eagle though, too many old married women ruthlessly trawling for something younger, creeped me out a bit!

If you set out to spoil his trick, no matter what his attitude, I think it displays a monumental arrogance on your part, at least the equal of the arrogance you think you detected in him.

I agree, restraint is the best policy as anything else just descends to their level. (If anyone politely refuses to see one of my effects, I always thank them warmly anyway and move on.)

I too was once accosted by someone, who insisted on showing me a slightly drunken version of Dynamic Coins, where he managed to flash the gaff - some accomplishment with such a self working trick. Thankfully he was quite an amiable drunk, and I stopped him from showing me any more by filling his hand with a drink and changing the subject.

I later asked him how long he had been into magic, and he said since half past four that afternoon when he had bought the trick! From Newbie to Magic Bore in less than 5 hours, must be some kind of record.

As I said in a previous post, I wish I had handled it differently. I think it's unfair to say that I spoilt the trick. As I said before, I didn't reveal the method. I simply found the ace each time. After all, isn't that the idea of Three Card Monte?

I love a monte me I am all for a monte. Here is a tip for you all out there don't do the Mexican turnover unless you are Darwin Ortiz and can do the Mexican turn over top change second deal, but that is in the hands.

I think it goes back to the line about seeing a bad magician you see one it puts you off magic for life. If you get a bad hair cut you go to a different barber. I don't mind really bad magicians it makes me look good.

I am master of misdirection, look over there.

We are not falling out young Welshy, we are debating, I think farlsy is an idiot he thinks I am one. We are just talking about who is the bigger idiot.
