The second episode was good, fiendish and inscrutable Orientals, the Tongs, cryptic symbols, much cerebral work and even a bit of escapology! Change the taxis to Hansom cabs, the spray paint to a paint pot and brush plus a few other changes in time and the whole thing could easily have been set in the Victorian era.

I'm looking forward to the third story on Sunday and sincerely hope this version can be brought back for a few more episodes.

I re-read "A Study in Scarlet" after the first episode. It's really quite close.

For the future, please don't include spoilers in your comments...I record it and watch it two or three days later.

Well, it's official, ther Beeb has announced that Sherlock will be back! The third episode was bewildering and the ending suggested more to come but I think I still prefer the first one - so far....

I agree. I think the first episode is probably the only on I'll keep, although there were lots of Conan Doyle references in the third one.
