Faith Schools Menace?

Richard Dawkins explains why he thinks religious schools are bad for kids. He makes a persuasive case and delivers it with uncharacteristic restraint, careful not to propagandise and in fact spends more time in discussion with people who disagree with him than with his supporters. He also remembers to talk to children and he's brilliant with them, explaining scientific ideas but reminding them to question the things grown-ups tell them. No doubt this will leave religious parents fuming. But secular mums and dads, particularly those not prepared to lie to get their children into 'better' state religious schools, may give him a cheer.

I'm hoping that the end credits has Christopher Hitchens punching the pope in the face.

Dear Jim,

Could you please fix it for me to see........

It'll never happen. Not many people know this but Hitchens and Saville have a long running feud. Jim claimed that he could 'fix it for you, and you and you and you'. Hitch immediately refuted this statement saying

He can't, there's no real proof that he can fix anything for you. More importantly, his attempts to 'fix' things poison everything and he's lies spread false hope and suffering to all corners of the world

Saville was distinctly unimpressed with this and the pair have had many heated debates around the US and England discussing the existence of Jim's fixing ability- most ending with a punch up amid spilt glasses of fine whiskey and trampled upon cigars. Not a pretty sight.

That's why the programme isn't on anymore, it had to be cancelled as virtually all recordings were invaded by Hitchens invading the set and lambasting Saville.

And you thought he had a problem with Religion!

This of course is nothing compared to the infamous appearance of Richard Dawkins on Blue Peter. It wasn't elephant poo that got stepped in on that day, I can tell you.

Have you heard The secret World on Radio 4? Dawkins joins Chaz and Dave, and insists on renaming it Chaz and Professor Richard Dawkins!

I'll take a look at this, but Dawkins is an irritant to me. I just wish he'd say what he thinks, i wish he'd shove his opinion down your throat or something. This fence straddling is really annoying.

Did you know that Richard Dawkins is married to Dr. Who assistant Lalla Ward? Ah, well, in that case, did you also know that they met at Douglas Adams' 40th birthday party? A kind of Zaphod meets Trillian moment, there...

I'm looking forward to this mainly because the idiom "If it doesn't hurt you then what's the problem?" comes in to play.

Of course I expect it to be portrayed in a very balanced way, I am sure it will not be in any way one sided... :D

I really enjoyed the first show, looks like the one tonight is going to be a condensed presentation of the book.
