its kinda not the point though is it...

its mentalism, or rather a branch away from the same tree...its really going back to its origins but in a different way of empowerment...

I was very apprehensive about this prior to broadcast. For me, Derren's TV work has gone very much off the boil in the last year and the trailer didn't fill me with glee either. I stated earlier that I had a bit of a 'Heist' feeling about this and I think that was fairly spot on... perhaps a Trick or Treat/Heist combo.

I bloody enjoyed it though. It was actually very uplifting telly, it made me feel good, something that can't be said of alot of the dross being commissioned lately. I watched it with a friend, a DB devotee bordering on Eshlyism and she enjoyed it too, we were both physically urging him to stand up on the plane and allowed ourselves a little "Yesss" when he did. Very enjoyable.
Essentially, anyone could have made this show but it's unlikely they would have made it quite as entertaining. DB's artistic vision is evident throughout, regardless of how much screen time he enjoyed. Had someone else 'presented' this it would have brought comparisons to DB. You can take the man out of the show but you can't take the show out of the man.

To add my tuppance to a few points made so far, which I won't quote/credit as I'm far too busy/lazy to trawl through the previous 7 pages.

Stooge
While I'm in no doubt that DB has used stooges to good effect in the past, this would be just too OTT if we view it as a single piece of TV.

Hypnostism
Almost certainly alot of 'pre show' hypnosis going on here, there's alot of REM like activity during Matt's dream segments, something I've found to be a fine indicator.

The Next Show
My gut/psychic feeling about this is that last night's show was nothing more than a precurser to something bigger and oh so more special. Here's how I see it:
Anyone who has now 'gotten involved' with a DB project will be on the lookout for a repeat of Matt's experiences. It just seems so unlikely. And for DB just to repeat the same thing again? Oh no, not on your life.
I think the second show is going to be some kind of 'reveal' of a larger, far more ambitious project for which last night was just the precurser. Something involving the viewing public. This is about our journey! In light of that, then it's entirely possible last night was pure stoogery and that will be admitted in the second show, "A month ago I showed you the story of Matt... Matt was an actor too, but I needed YOU to believe in the story so that you could start on your own journey" - seems a DBesque line to me! LOL
In short, I'm expecting great things in 29 days, 10 hours (can't be bothered with the rest, you get the idea  )

Yeah i agree that last night was his opener and his convincer of a larger project,

I enjoyed it, even if little bits were a bit odd lol.

Bit Strange though that the 30 days end on a Friday at 11.13pm ... pretty late ... and worse still Ill be on the bluddy m25 on my way back from Southend ...

Although it does explain why Jack in the boxes were thin on the ground lol...

E x

Didn't enjoy it :(
He didn't even do any magic!

Would have much preferred a few card tricks.

or at least guess which hand the pound coin is in.

bah! It reminded me more of a boring psychology documentary - how to change your life, step 1, step 2, bla bla bla!

Hmmm Eshlyism... I think inhave some pills for that somewhere :p

I seriously hope there is a large reveal in part 2, but I'm not going to get my hopes up in case it is a repeat of the events. As for the 11 o'clock thing, I think it will be on at 10:10, with a real live finale at the end of the time deadline, ie 10/10/10 at 10:10.

dove production.. he did one. It might of been in the trailer mind, but it was shot.

I must say i wasnt expecting a magic show, so I wasnt upset when he didnt do anything to Illustrate his points..

but i was left feeling that this could of been made into a half hour show.

the odd thing about the train track thing.. why didnt he just sit up in the first place?

It illustrated one facinating thing about being in danger, in that he was clearly trying to get out of the straight jacket , rather than the path of the train.
He was not taking the obvious easy route, rather he was trying to do it the hard way.

I thought Matt an introvert staging a party in the street was better than him being 'forced' to land the plane.

lol, he didn't have much choice did he? The bystander effect is real and if it applied anywhere in the show, this would have been where, not the stupid smoke in the door.

Is it just me, or is half the magical community choosing to overlook all the -quite obvious- evidence that this was all stooged. I'm not against stooging, but I'm against BAD stooging, which this is.

Even if it is NOT stooged, it looks stooged. Which is the point. :/

It’s impossible to please everyone, but I can certainly assure anyone questioning that sort of thing that I don’t use actors in that way, and it would be stupid to do so, as I’d have to find, kill or silence all their friends, families and acquaintances too.

Seconded.

While I'm here Tom... probably not clever to make observations about the 'quality' of hypnosis on display and then in the same point admit you don't know anything about hypnosis.

I'm not saying that I know for certain it was stooged. But it deffinetly looked stooged, and thats just as bad.
