Levitation

Postby Mandrake » Sep 11th, '10, 22:46

Chilean illusionists Jean Paul Olhaberry and Nicolas Luisetti perform a levitation act at a main street in downtown Santiago, Chile, September 9, 2010. They held their pose for 200 minutes, to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the independence of the Republic of Chile. - take a look at http://english.sina.com/life/p/2010/0910/338906.html

Obvious illusion is obvious.

And yet they were still able to entertain thousands and make the international press.

This is why you will never grasp the concept of presentation.

I'm not saying it didn't work, I'm just saying they could have done something so much better. That style of illusion is meant for short levitations, if you do it for 200 minutes then it becomes apparant what the methodolgy is.

Tommy Cooper made international headlines and was a fantastic performer, but people still knew how half his tricks were done :p

OK, I'll bite.

So Esh, you want to celebrate 200 years of your country gaining independance. What would you do for 200 minutes?

I'd try and set some sort of record by doing 200 minutes of Stage Mentalism (if I thought I was that good, which I am not).

Or I'd do a 200 minute long suspended animation illusion, or I'd do all sorts of things. Depends on the budget.

Still, cudos to those guys.

The fact remains. Those guys did it, they entertained, made international headlines while the rest of us are on the internet talking about it! I think one should think about that before judging how or why or what.

and the other half didn't work!! The best thing about Tommy (going slightly off topic) is that he was in fact a true cardie genius but through tricks going wrong in the 'mess' he found his nich of comedy magic. True hero and a lesson to many.

Back on topic, perhaps Esh would celebrate with 200 moans??? ;)

Presentation and captivation are key... these guys did it and achieved the effect of getting people talking about it.
