Decided to share a couple of my ideas.

Postby Arkesus » Sep 10th, '10, 01:27

Most of the time when I post videos it is because a friend from across the pond wants to see me doing a magic trick so normally it is something I am either reading up on or have recently bought and so am working through. Tonight I felt like sharing a couple of my own original creations, so comments and thumbs up are welcome guys.

Go here and here.

Wow, that first one must have taken forever to setup. Kudos for that man. On the whole I liked them, novel and different. Good stuff. The slow-motion multiple shift was nice, never thought of doing it like that before.

Thought the first one was brilliant, was expecting some kind of magic coloring book effect (although perhaps you could combine it with that principle to show blank pages first :) ), and was really amazed when I saw the reveal. I haven't seen the second yet. :D

The flickbook idea I hit upon when someone showed me their idea for a reveal was a video on their phone, they were so pleased with themselves, but I just thought that with the storage capacity on handheld devices being so well known nowadays people would just assume you could have all 52 videos right there on it. So it got me thinking, well what can you have that tells them without a doubt that you don't have 52 responses? I ended up on the flickbook.
I filmed my hands doing the sleight and had that small video cut up and printed and bound, that way it's the same motion in the book as what they had just seen repeated three times, I get it wrong three times so the visual of the move is burned into their short term memory so when they see it in the book it is recognised.

Glad you guys enjoy.

Really nice work. And full respect for printing up the flickbook!

Two nice effects and some nifty card handling. The only thing I would maybe think about replacing is the dodgy looking shuffle that you do during the Ace In A Million Trick. Don't let the audience think you've not shuffled the cards fairly, the Hindu shuffle is just not convincing. But on the whole some very good work.

And remember, being in one of those flicky books is the next best thing to being a proper Hollywood movie star.

Very good, of course now I am going to start calling you the headless magician!

What really peaked my interest was not your video's but after the first one there was a link to a video titled 'why your magic is boring'. I hope that wasn't you because frankly, that video was boring. And the guy (or you if indeed it was you) missed the entire point. Card tricks are not boring. It is the magician that is boring. Only magicians think card tricks are boring. In fact the first thing out of a laypersons mouth when they find out I am a magician is usually 'can you show me a card trick" And clearly only magicians like me think that trick where you lay out the cards in a row over and over is boring. Yet it amazes me how many non magicians want to show me that trick. Obviously they like it and me being the kind professional that I am sit and watch with an enthusiastic look on my face while what I'm really thinking about is what would be the easiest way to keel over dead.

I like the ideas, but your actual card handling is fidgety and not too smooth. That's my only criticism.
