well to be honest (and why not?) i wasnt that enamoured with the film... ok there were a few bits that i giggled at and had a bit of a chuckle but i prefer the book (although i will point out that i only read it last week for the first time). The advantage of the book is that the plot/characters/locations all take place in the confines of the readers imagination and as such can be all the more fantasctic and vibrant than can be put onto film. Dont get me wrong i thought the film was ok but as a new convert to HHGTTG i was kinda dissapointed.

on a similar note i hope they NEVER EVER try and make a movie of the "discworld" series of books..which i would heartily recommend to anyone who enjoyed the BOOK HHGTTG!

Next best to the book would be the original BBC Radio 4 broadcasts which may still be available on tape or CD - lots of scope for the imagination and the theme music sounds even better!

Well I've just seen the film, and I have to say I really enjoyed it. I am not sure it could have been much better. Sure it missed a lot of the book, and was different in places but I felt the gist was there. I would like to think that Mr. Adams would have been very proud of it.

Before seing the film I did feel that Marvin may have been a littel too cutesy, but Alan Rickman played that part so well - it just fitted in. Actually I think all the main characters were cast very well, and I even think they handled zaphod's two heads exceptionally. (When I saw the play it was two guys in one suit - very funny - but more comical than anything else, and the tv show's second head was just too Blake's Seven to take seriously.

Mog is right though - the radio series is the best way to take in the story - closely followed by the book, but all in all - I really did love this film.
