sort of following on from how to cope with awkward spectators.

WHY OH WHY OH WHY do some people even when thay know that it is a completly free choice of card try and pick one from the bottom of the deck that is still in your hand instead of one that has been fanned out and is so easy to grasp??????? (Rant over. if my fingers needed to breath then i think they would be gasping after that one).

because many people believe, free choice or not, they are having certain cards forced on them, so they try and catch the magician out (even though if it is a free choice it will make no difference :D) im not sure where its the fact they like to see the magician fail, or they like the fact they were smart enough to figure out the trick (most likely the 2nd one) also in an eariler topic is was said its not just how you hold the cards its what you SAY to the spectator that could make a difference,

If this happens, its best just to blow it off as if it isn't a problem. I know what you mean though, it is really annoying but these things happen so don't worry about it. :) Whatever doesn't kill you makes you stronger, right?

All the best,

Turn the tables on them!

Always have the same card on the bottom of the deck, and have a duplicate stuck to the ceiling or tattooed to your chest or something.

Then watch their faces......

I used to do something somewhat like this: I would have one card widely spread to in the middle somewhere - so it's obvious you're trying to get them to pick that card. I'd just check it every time - sometimes you get lucky.

Actually, I think it might be a nice opener if you just noted the top and bottom cards of the deck and put them somewhere - use a Wiregram, S(p)ellotape them to the bottom of the chairs, and so on...
