the best thing about been a magician is this..

still been able to get amazed by another magician.

sometimes i show someone a really simple self working card trick, an it changes their life, but some may agree, in my head, im thinking, it werent that good!!

I've been hooked on magic as long as I can remember. Just recently I decided that I wanted to be in the magicians shoes, so now here I am.

As i said in my introduction I have only been involved in magic for a few years. I have always loved watching magic and I have very early memories of magic on tv, and those classic magicians at your spanish holiday hotel(!). However what made me want to become involved was when i was at a barbeque and a guy there (well i say a guy he was about 15!) was showing some card tricks. I remeber him using a svengali and stripper deck for some effects, which at the time I had no idea about. I really wanted to be able to perform these things. But what floored me was the 2 card monte he done on me! From then on I was hook, line and sinker!
Do you remember the exact moment you thought "Magic is for me"?

Chris
I do rember when I got involed in magic. I think I was 7, I got my first magic set on christmas. But I didnt get involved in it that much becuase I couldnt find any tricks on the internet untill just now when I got other magic tricks. But I've always wanted to see magic on tv and do magic sense I first saw it. So now I'm going to get more tricks and stuff and become better.

I often think how fed up they must get with other magi's asking for tips but credit to them for not showing it. Despite this, they've not given me any inspiration to go away and better myself and I can honestly say that some of the posts that I read on this site from 'the regulars' inspire me far more than the big names.

I was chatting to Paul Zennon at the Blackpool convention a few years ago and one of the young magicians I know sort of butted into the conversation and asked Paul straight out if he could tell him how he did a certain trick Paul did on the Telly! ....I can't remember what he asked right now and it's not important but without saying anything else Paul just turned his back and walked off cutting the conversation dead....

I got chatting again to Paul later but it maybe echos what you say Dat, they probably get so fed up with other magicians asking them for tips and secrets, however, I never expected him to cut the conversation dead!

I too have met quite a few famous magicians in my time, and some are more than willing to impart bits of advice and tips etc but some are not...... :(

To get back to the original post, I don't remember the exact moment I had the thought...Magic is for me...because I feel that I've been doing magic as a hobby most of my life.....

I am sure I have mentioned this before, how I started doing the cups and balls as a party piece when I was about 8 or 9, but it may be even earlier than this as I can't remember the exact age I started doing this.

My father was interested in magic, and my grandfather invented and made magic tricks and sold them to Tam Sheppards of Galsgow Queen Street, the famous trick and joke shop now run by the equally famous Roy Walton......and I just had an interest from an early age...first as a hobby and then as it is now with me trying to make a modest living as a close-up performer.

The owner of the bar I frequent is an amateur magician. He's been showing tricks to his customers for about 10 years, long before I started coming to his bar. First, I was only partially interested, but with time I got hooked on it. Half a year ago he told me about the TT (well, actually he sold me the secret) and showed how to do the basic stuff with silks and cigarettes. That got me started.

I know that their is mixed feelings on the guys that got me into magic, the two DB's is all I will say! Obviously Paul Daniels when i was a kid but i never took magic seriously then, a couple of packet tricks, a finger guillotine and that was that until about 3 months ago, yes I have been doing it that long! expert!
