I'm quite new here, but I would like to tell everyone a story about how magic and, specifically, mentalism (in a way) changed my life.....
If you read my introduction a week (or so) ago, you will have read that I am confused about how to describe myself as a magician - I have always been so interested in magic, be it coins, cards, or big stage acts, and have performed as a paid act quite a few times in the uk on a part time basis.
However, a few years back, I had a choice between sticking with my stable - and well paid - job, or doing something that I've wanted to do since I was 12 years old. Now, this may come as a surprise to some, but this first love was not not magic. I always wanted to teach people how to dive, which I made up my mind to do, and follow my dream.
So I moved abroad - which cost me a relationship - and did what I have wanted to do for 14 years.
3 years later, I was performing some magic in a bar for some colleagues (as I often did), when I got talking to someone who was interested in what I was doing. She was very attractive, and I never, ever used to use magic to talk to girls (never had the need to seeing as I'm so devishly attractive) - However, she had seen me doing some simple mentalism with friends, and wanted to see some 'tricks'. I did a few few forces, Hindu shuffle etc, which she was interested in, then asked her to think of any random card she wanted to - absolutely free will. Now, usually this would be part of a larger mentalism act, but for some reason, I decided to throw my cards on the table (as it were) and guess - which I did. My guess, to her, and my, amazement, was spot on - the 5 of clubs. Obviously, she was absolutely amazed - as was I (even though I exuded a quiet smugness).
This beautiful woman and I married on 10/10/10, the most magical date in my life so far, which brings me back to how magic - quite literally - has changed my life.
Anyone else got any good stories about how magic has affected them?
