Skype Tuition?

Postby mbeavitt » Mar 3rd, '11, 00:30

Will anybody here teach me magic (card mostly as I have had 6 months experience with that and coin/street magic too though not so much experience with coin)? I really want to learn from someone so if one of the people on this site would be kind enough to help me i would be really grateful. thanks in advance:?

ps. I am only 13 so of you dont like teaching kids dont. :D

I can't think how to say this without sounding rude, so I apologise for that, but if anybody offers to tutor you based on this post, there's a good chance they won't be worth learning from.

Where do you live? There are local magic clubs and courses all over the place and you'll usually meet someone who's willing to teach you.

Invoke not reason. In the end it is too small a deity.

I agree... A local magic club is a great source of help. Some may even have a junior night. But if you really want to learn card magic then purchase a couple of bike decks and a copy of Royal road to card magic. The price of that book is so low now that is really is a good way to start. It can also be purchased online from lybrary. You may also like Mark Wilson's magic book. Learning basic magic is not as expensive as some people think. No need for expensive props just some normal cards, coins and a couple of books. Good luck!

Remember you get what you pay for.
If you pay nothing you usually get something worth the same.

Many moons ago, well before the invention of the internet, videos, DVDs, TV or even the widespread use of the telephone, magic was shared and taught by postal correspondence course - The Tarbell Course is one example of how it used to be. Before anyone decides to call that idea old fashioned, let’s be very clear that without such activities, magic would probably not have spread and survived quite so well! It’s on that back of the dinosaur method that the current huge market for magic rests.

If you are in a remote area, my best suggestion is that if you have a local library, go pester them to order or borrow all the magic tuition books they can get hold of. You might also enquire there if they know of any other magicians around who might be able to either help or perhaps join in your studies. Due to your age and the ever present concerns these days, such meetings and tuition really has to be on neutral territory where you are not isolated with the other person. Are there any facilities at school which can be used? Have you asked if any of the teachers have an interest in magic or at least in hosting a magic meet?

If things work out you might even be founding your own local magic society – best of luck!

Where abouts in the north of Scotland are you dude? Pretty sure there are a few clubs, unless you're pretty rural...

I'm in a similar situation to mbeavitt, (but not scotland :( ). It seems that all the magic clubs/societys are either too far away, clash with school or have requirements that I don't meet (mainly age limit/experience level). Luckily for us we can access this site! :D

Paul, he's a 13 year old kid who was looking for some free lessons. I think 100 pounds a session might be out of his budget!

Oh! Well, I'm always happy to help youngsters (for little/no fee), but rather in person... Paul

You are still very young. I suggest you spend some time on forums like this one and if possible get to read some quality books on this subject. Most of us can teach you the tricks but you have to do a lot of practicing in order to make them look clean and perfect.

Good luck :)
