My faithful old Extractor finally died at today's wedding fair. After 1000s of uses at 100s of events someone pushed a card into it during a signed CTW routine and the whole front section came apart! It is such a great bit of kit that I'm tempted to buy 2 new ones so I've always got a backup available.

And at the wedding fair I met one very bizarre bloke. When I asked him to sign his chosen card he was very secretive about it and when it appeared in my wallet a short while later it was clear that he hadn't actual signed it at all! His reason for this was that signing the card "made it too easy for me"?!?!?

There was also a signed 9 of diamonds on the ceiling from a previous magician's performance. Very impressive as this ceiling is at least 25' high (apparently the 9D's been up there for over 2 years!)

I know the extractor went gold, you can do a little search on this forum too.
I have it but it is the first one and it is still new, just used less than five times...
But how the 9D has finished on the ceiling ?

Extractor is a lovely piece of kit. I used it all the time when i was still performing regular magic. A really lovely item that any magician should be proud to use.

The gold edition includes an extra dvd which explains how to take it apart & re box it in anything you want (this gets around the newer Bike box 'problem') Peter was gracious enough to send me the dvd after I saw him at Blackpool & showed him my 1st edition Extractor which needed internal attention. I remade it yesterday & it's as good as new. Took about an hour start to finish.

I've never actually seen the extractor, is it just an easier way to remove a selected card without palming?

It makes the whole process much easier. The cards go into the card box and the box goes into your or the spectators pocket. Now you are ready to make the chosen card appear anywhere! Excellent piece of magic

Cue everyone slagging it off in favour of regular palming.

The beauty is, they handle the deck, choose a card, the deck goes back into the box (they can do this), they sign the card, they push the card back into the middle of the boxed deck & can close the flap/lid. You can instantly reveal their card & produce it from anywhere.

Yes that card case is like a prison, and the spectator puts it in themselves, if someone was to ask a mirror which was the fairest of them all Extractor would be up there.

Personally, and on the subject of dead Extractors, this one time, at band camp, a participant put a card into said prison case, and it actually got lost in there. Without giving any of the game away, it really was bizarre. My Extractor's looking pretty knackered these days, and suffering from magician's guilt my normal deck has to match in terms of wear and tear. The day I get a new shiny Extractor will be a joyous one.

One thing I don't understand about the extractor.For what it's worth and all the extra pocket space,would it not be easier to control and palm the card.The spectator doesnt know of false shuffles and palming is it not the same thing to them?

Yes, or you could do that effect first then get an extra signature on the same card, have them replace the card into the boxed deck & produce it from an even more obsurdly impossible place. Some participants will remember the fact that you handled the deck & yes believe it or not some know about palming & most suspect false shuffling.

And the Easter bunny is really Santa in disguise.

The Extractor isn't a replacement for palming or a gimmick used by those who don't/can't palm a card - it lets you perform completely different, and arguably stronger, effects. The spec puts their signed card anywhere they like into the box, you put the box away and immediately show that the card is now in your wallet (or wherever). Russpie is right - it's the complete absence of any handling or manipulation of the cards that makes it so powerful. For £50 it's one of the best bits of kit out there.
