Teller's floating knife

Postby lonesomeblues » Mar 26th, '11, 09:34

Hey folks,

first post here. I was hoping anyone could tell me the secret to this trick. Apparently its simple, but I cant tell.

Is one of the first scenes (1 min mark at tops), where Teller does a trick with the knife floating at the tip of his finger and then drops it when a girl kisses him.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bO8iMI-P ... page#t=32s

Now, I already tought of the basic floating objects techniques. The another object on watch is impossible, since is right on the tip of the fingers. He's not holding with his thumb, since his hand are apart...

So, any guesses?

Thanks,

LB.

Hi Lb,

Well it's a little known secret so please keep it between us but he has strong magnets implanted in his finger tips. Each has a different polarity and can achieve different things.

Do a search on 'finger fun' on google to see a documentary on it.

He will go to any length to achieve the impossible for his audience. According to sources, he has a new 'bum tip' coming out onto the Market soon. You can store all sorts of things in it!

Best wishes,

Alec

Hiya!

Asking for the secrets of tricks will bring a whole tonne of abuse and bad feeling down on your head.

We don't expose tricks here.

You could, however, ask if anyone knows of an available book where a particular effect has been published. We're always happy to help people take the initiative to learn. Taking on some of the work involved in researching, studying, developing and learning effects (and supporting the developers by buying the appropriate publications and props) is the quality that makes you deserve the secret to a trick.

Just asking for the secret makes you a target for a load of flaming.

And... if the secret hasn't been published for the magic community, then nobody is entitled to it.

Alec, thanks a lot for the responde. I really tought it would be something way more simple then that! Will look for the documentary. :)

Pete, I really appreciate your advice. I'm from Brazil and I can't get many things here, such as good magic community centers or even good books.

I will keep the secret giveaway requests at minimum, promise.

I did what Teller did, and the knife stuck to my hand just like in the video clip. It might help that my silverware is very similar in design to the one Teller uses (but then, it might not - I don't have any other knives to try!).

I remembered that I'd seen a book or DVD on the subject, so I had a hunt round and found that it was Laws of Attraction, by Shoot Ogawa.

I cannot guarantee that Teller's knife trick is on this DVD, but I think it's likely to contain something similar. The DVD is sold by a wide range of magic suppliers, so you might be able to get it sent to you.

Kobain was joking about the documentary - as pcwells said, on good magic forums it's considered wrong to ask for secrets.

Mysterios encyclopedia of magic and conjouring is available in many shops and features and effect like this (dual control).

There are a couple of ways to achieve this. Alan Alans gimmick can be used for these sort of effects. The method used in the clip is very old and is/was usually used to make a wand stick to your fingers - it can probably be found in many beginners books.

Just stick the sharp end in nice and deep and it will stay on your finger. The blood will look realistic too

you can tell this method a mile off,if you know where to look.
:)

I seem to remember this being one of the first things i was taught as a kid.

mind you, its nowhere near as effective as the suspension poor old Roy Currie used to do. :)
