How did he cover the digits being read out incorrectly?

On the whole, I enjoyed the show. Not as good as his previous ones, but still worth seeing. The opening effect made me smile, the joke about vegans made me laugh aloud, and the ending wasn't as big as usual, but definitely unexpected with the up and climb and the swing swing swing!

Just saw it in Oxford. Without spoiling anything I'll keep it brief. Great mentalism, great performance, poor show. For me it didn't hang together at all and the changes in pace and tone were too often and too sudden. As I say though magic/mentalism was very solid indeed and great fun. I did enjoy myself.

I would also suggest that the first half was better than the second, you would agree?

Really not sure. Both halves were full of what i'd tentatively refer to as 'Derren mentalism' (presentationaly that is) and both left me feeling a little empty.

Is that not what you would expect though seeing as it his show?

Still have a month to wait before I get to see this. :(

Saw this last night and thoroughly enjoyed it. It was my first time seeing him live and the energy he puts in to his performance is great to see. Technically I am pleased to say that I could figure most of it, I was however beaten by the last effect, those of you have been will know the one I mean.

The theatre was full to overflowing and everyone seemed to be having a great time. It was fun during the interval to listen to the debates about how he did things. Nobody came remotely close. The way he wraps up the effect in the story is something I really like about him and when you actually know what he has done it is fascinating to watch people live the story he is weaving.

A good show IMHO!

HI

I tend to agree with the other comments, it was a good show, but not as good as the previous ones, i suspect he needs to take some time off touring, he seems to always be on the road, so I felt the writing lets the show down.

There were some nice tricks and metalism though, but asd my girlfriend said, it really needed Derrens personality to make it, and would fall very flat without him.

I saw this in Sunderland, after a few changes to the show apparently.

Just to echo what others have said. Very good show, (of course it is, its Derren Brown) however i much prefered Enigma. I dont think this show is a patch on his other. Perhpas its the lack of Nyman influence, the show looks and feels different, its a god a different style and I prefered his previous work. It also feels slightly rushed in terms of the writing, perhaps not as thought out as his other shows. Or maybe its the direction which isnt quite there. I havnt looked into his Directors past work so cant really comment. HOWEVER, I really enjoyed the evening. Being within the Magi I pretty much worked out the whole show. Bits may be magician foolers but very little of it will be a "Mentalist" fooler. Two bits did however fool me : Initials.... and also.. Baloon paper.... people who have seen the show will know.

In short, another great show from Derren Brown, will leave audiences gasping for breath and amazed when leaving. My crowd certainly were shock and excited at the end of the show. I left feeling a bit sad, wishing perhaps that I can forget my meantlism teachings for an evening and enjoy his performance and be amazed again. I cant wait to see the show In London and hopefully on the next leg as well. For his next one though.. I really want to be wowed! Stick a Mentalist fooler in there Brown!... Dare ya!

There's now two fewer tickets to Manchester (woo!). I don't think there are any decent stalls seats left

Saw it a week ago in Sunderland and was thouroughly impressed! I agree that the show isn't as good as previous ones ("Something Wicked..." still can't be beaten for me) I echo comments made before and suggest this is due to the lack of Andy Nyman's involvment.

Although I was able to work out how most of it was done, I still enjoyed just sitting back and allowing a great entertainer to do some great entertaining. In my opinion the second half was stronger than the first and my girlfriend who, who was completely baffled by the finale, agrees although wasn't remotely impressed by the audience suggestability test (those who have seen it should know what I'm on about.)

I was lucky enough to meet Mr Brown after the show and got some things signed (including a blank faced bike which is now one of my most treasured possessions :P) and he came across as a properly nice bloke who thanked me for purchasing his "Tricks of the Mind" book and I think he was sincere in this. He wished me good luck with my magic and said he hoped to see me taking his place at C4 in the future when he's "old and decrepid" which made people around laugh.

In general, a wonderful night out and a great show that I hope is surpassed by even greater ones in the future :)

Just got back from tonight's show in Stoke - and I'm quietly impressed :-)

After reading a few of the comments, my expectations were somewhat lower that usual but DB did a terrific job of (as previously mentioned) getting a huge amount of mileage out of some basic techniques in the first half. The second half wasn't quite as successful in terms of pacing and tone (IMHO, of course) but the ending was quite unexpected - Derren is becoming quite the showman!!

I'd agree with eveningzoo's comments about the two areas that left him baffled - maybe I'll start having a serious think about those methods tomorrow. Or maybe not..

On a side note, my wife (long suffering test subject of all manner of tricks) said it was the most enjoyable DB show she'd seen (we've seen them all) - and she was particularly taken with the opening 'shoe' effect..... not sure what that tells you about her :-)

I'll probably try and go again on the second go-around next year - to see any changes, etc...

A top night!
