On another point the reference to a "James Bond" gimmick above is a description that crops up surprisingly often. I have been disappointed when that term has been used in the past. I certainly would be disappointed when the "James Bond" gimmick is merely some cleverly folded paper gimmick: can't envisage Mr Bond prancing around with some Q-sanctioned origami....

Craig. You're wrong. Plain and simple. You're talking rubbish (again!). You're living in the past. You are more than welcome to stay there. But hell, it's your loss. So what - Cassidy etc are well known names in the world of mentalism. It doesn't mean they are right.

Stop talking Cr@p and getting on your high horse about nothing. I am a mentalist. I use a peek wallet. I also use cards. I also use chairs. I also use humour, wit, and personality. I also like to think I have the likeability factor. It's something that you should try out once and a while.

Love

Chris

Ok

I've read through the post of late and feel I have to throw my oppinion in here.

Firstly I think the Devil's Tailor is playing the devil's advocate here or at least misunderstanding what Craig has said.I must say that I find myself agreeing with most of what Craig is saying.I don't think anyone can dispute his experience so whenever I see people of his calibre on these forums I LISTEN!!

I have an interesting video clip here of keith barry performing for an Irish radio and tv presenter.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fo1dLTEzyHI

Take note that he uses an impression device at the start and it is suspected (As the skeptic Dermot is)He then moves on to more organic mentalism which appears to be a billet switch. As he reads out the pin Dermot says ''You must have seen it somehow''.Now this type of spectator is the type that no mentalist in the world would convice. He sees through the tricks and looks at them as...well tricks.

All that aside I thought it was an awful performance of battle of the wits by Keith although his live show is bloody good!!

There is no justification in 99% of mentalism I've ever seen.If you could read minds then you should be able to do it without pads, wallets, paper, billets etc etc.Why write it down????Keith's excuse ''So we can look at it later as proof''.Sorry but to me that's not good enough but to most laymen it flys by them.

Laymen should not be aware of guilty wallets, pads and billet switches.I recently did a peek for someone and they said ''I don't beleive that, you must have seen it SOMEHOW'' and that was good enough for them.Like it was Dermot in the video.

The skeptics will always be skeptic no matter what you do for them.

On a side.Craig you are rambling on about pure mentalism. The original poster never made the post as a mentalist but as a magician.I can see from your point of view as an extreme mentalist that you'd like to set things straight and maybe you get frustrated that magician's dabble in your work and get maximum credit with minimum skill.

Personally I'm a magician who dabbles with bits of mentalism.Props are irrelevant to me.Presentation and reactions are what is important to me and do you know what?I get them.Do people walk away thinking I'm super natural or have some finely attuned skill?Nope cause I tell them I don't.

Finally I had someone I had performed for about 8 years ago come up to me Saturday night and say ''Remember that trick (ID)blah blah blah that was amazing''...

8 years later.I cannot ask for more than that
