Pick a card...comedy opener

Postby ultimatecreate » Jun 17th, '11, 14:09

Hello all,

Whilst I have done the comedy opener in the past with a fanned deck in one hand....

"Pick a card...any card..."

One card sticks out and is moved around by the thumb following the specs 'choosing' hand (giving the impression you are trying to force that one card onto them).

Is this actually explained anywhere or in any books? When I do it, it looks like a real mish mash. Be great if someone could break it down or point me in the correct direction.

Badly worded but hope that's clear! alex

Alex.

I do this with a two handed fan and use my middle finger of my right hand (im a lefty) to make the card wiggle. To be honest I can't do the one handed version myself. The art of magic and sleight of hand by Nicholas Einhorn has an explanation of the two handed version if you're interested.

I never offer a card witout doing this.Always gets a laugh.Sometimes the suspicious spectator doesn't get it and says ''You're just trying to make me pick that one'' which I find even more funny.

Hello Alex,
My understanding is the card is a gaffed card stuck to the side of your index finger with a strip of doublesided tape. You ditch the card after the gag.

Paul Harris explains it in his video performance/explanation of Tap Dancing Aces in a Stars of Magic dvd.

Since it's hardly a secret method and is more of a gag than anything else, I'll PM you a private youtube link.

Currently Reading "House of Mystery" (Abbott, Teller), Tarbell, Everything I can on busking
