Portable Sound System

Postby Beardy » Jul 4th, '11, 18:03

I've had a shifty around and cannot find exactly what I want on this forum, so now bids the question.

I need a portable sound system that is the following:

Portable for one person
Wireless head mike
Can be set up easily within 10 minute of turning up to a venue, hassle free for somebody who doesn't know how these things work.

Basically I have a fair few shows coming up, and now rather than hassling around plugging by cr@ppy lapel mike into their stereo stuff and getting terrible feedback and 30 minutes of frustration, I'd like to turn up, unfold my suitcase, have a couple of speakers (or however these things work) come out, have a nice head mike on, and then at the end be able to pack it down nice and easily.

Realistically it needs to be loud enough to play to a hall of 250-300 people. Any bigger than that and I will probably be provided with my own stuff in a more professional venue than a massive hall.

Note that this kind of headmike (http://www.soundsavers.com/shop/audio-equipment/microphones/wireless-microphones/products/w-audio-flesh-coloured-headset.html - flesh coloured, sits around the ears, etc) I have used before several times with no faults, so a collection of everything I need with that in it would be more than perfect.

Ideally it would be around £200 odd, but I'm not sure if you can get anything that fits the bill under that budget.

Anybody have experience with such an item that can provide recommendations?

As a bonus, if it takes an iPod whereby I can play a song at a click of a button, without having to unplug my mike, that would be fantastic!

Thanks!

Love

Chris

This is what I'm saving up for right now. I've tried it out and it's ridiculously lightweight, probably not the loudest on the market but loud enough to get attention. It doesn't come with a headset but getting one shouldn't be hard. You can also get a cheaper one if you don't need it to play mp3's.

Invoke not reason. In the end it is too small a deity.

I got this recently: http://www.maplin.co.uk/dj-tech-portabl ... tem-340820
It is too small for some of your venues, but I find it great for street work, festivals, and small halls. It has a headset mic, and inputs for music. Perfect for many of my gigs.
A friend is putting an output plug on it so that I can hook it up to sound systems in pubs and clubs, or into my bigger system, when that is needed.

Thanks for the suggestions guys.

Added to the actual sound system/amp that you guys have suggested, how does this sound:

Any thoughts?

Though I must say Tony, I like the look of yours...(ooh err)

very nice but isn't this cart before the horse, £200+ for a mike but under £200 for the important bits. :?:

Shure make very good microphones, their Sm58 has been the industry standard in nightclubs for years.
