Do you have to carry the goodies on your person? The rules are much more relaxed for items in checked baggage. Basically, as long as it's not likely to catch fire or explode, it's probably OK.
Very dangerous (or dangerous-seeming) items may have to be checked in separately to fly under the pilot's personal supervision. Colin had to do this with some large hunting knives and an air pistol. There's no problem with such items, just a little extra paperwork and you have to pick them up separately. Or in our case, they were delivered by courier the next day.
