Good Magic Shops In West Midlands?

Postby danh2000 » Jun 18th, '04, 18:10

Hi,

I'm brand new to magic and have been looking at the vast range of products available on the internet, however I want to visit a good magic shop that stocks the usual things (Coins, Cards, Loops etc etc).

I live in Birmingham in the West Midlands... can anyone recommend a shop?

Thanks in advance,

Dan.

There aren't many real shops left these days but Keith Bennett has one - check out www.kbmagic.co.uk for directions and details. It's a small shop and easy to miss but look carefully - he's open Saturdays but not sure about any other days! I saw one last year on the Bristol Road almost opposite Sainsbury's at Selly Oak - he did juggling items as well and I think Friday night was late night but no idea of the name. There's one over towards Wolverhampton and the name has escaped from memory on that one as well but I'm sure HT will be able to remind me!

Failing that, The British Magical Society (who are older than the Magic Circle!) are based in Brum and may be able to advise - do a Google search for them or there might be a link from Keith's website.

PS Welcome to the forum!

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the info, I'll check out the links you've provided and do some shopping....

I wasn't aware of the British Magical Society so I'll be checking them out aswell.

My interest (apart from seeing table magic in restaurants etc) comes from a very old book I have called 'The Illustrated Book Of Magic Tricks' by Will Dexter of the Magic Circle - Published in 1957 - I'm amazed at how many of the tricks are still used and still popular 50 years on!

I appreciate your warm welcome and advice.

See you on the Forum

Dan.

As you get deeper into the art you will find that there are a lot of 'new' effects based on old ideas!

I agree with the recommendation of Keith Bennett: I have used his services for years. He's a helpful approachable bloke. And knowledgeable. Phone him if you can't get to his shop: his mail order service is first-rate.

What part of birmingham are you from, Dan? World Magic Store is less than 5 mins drive from the city centre...

As the original post was some 7 years ago, I doubt you'll get an answer! As an update, Keith Bennett has closed his shop, now mail/online order only, and the one on the Bristol Road no longer does magic.
