Hi just reading my new book 13 steps and it gives a list of components to make up a green flame powder do people usually make there own from chemicals or can you buy it thanks for advice

I asked this question about 6 years ago. The basic consensus back then was "don't bother unless you want to blow yourself up". We live in a very different age to when 13 Steps was written. The chemicals required to make the green flash may well have been freely available from chemists back in the 1950's, but these days they're the kind of ingredients that are only going to encourage a visit from the counter-terrorism unit.

Perhaps flash powder is the way to go? Does it have to be green? I don't remember the finer details of the script.

Agreed, don't do it. Elf 'n' safety paranoia aside, the risk of blowing your thumbs off is too great. And without thumbs you might find Step 1 extremely difficult!

these days, you can buy coloured flash products.you willneed to shop around.

Copper sulphate is what you want for green flames but, as Dale says, it's much easier to buy coloured flash paper.

yes i thought it would be easyier to buy the already made stuff how long does this normally burn for can you get a long burning mixture that is coloured thanks

Osterlind uses standard green flash paper when he does the effect on the 13 steps dvds.
