Have any of you suggested subtleties/minor improvements to a creator of a commercial effect? If so, how did you go about it?
There's an effect I perform regularly and I (very humbly) think that my slight variation in the performance adds a great deal and would like to share my thoughts with its creator but don't want to come across as arrogant. I mean, it's not as if I have any best-selling books or DVDs. Ok, so I perform some but still....
Any thoughts?

A good developer would never tell you that there's only one way to perform their effect, and will always be open to suggestions. Drop him a line and explain that you use his effect and that you've come up with a variation that he might like. He'll probably be interested in your subtlety, even if it's not big enough to put out an addendum.
