Postby CArlight1958 » Aug 1st, '11, 09:24

I am Wanting to do a routine

"Beat The Devil by Darwin Ortiz"
Using the same set of tarot cards.

Anyone no where I could get a set of these cards from?

Thanks.

I just use several Ace of Spades in place of the devil cards. For the 'coin' card I use the King of Diamonds.

Minimal changes to patter are required (e.g. "The ace of spades is often called the devil card...", "The King of Diamonds represents all the material wealth that I could desire..."). Getting all the Tarot cards you need many be prohibitively expensive, as you will need to buy multiple decks to get all the cards that you need.

Thanks SJ,

Darwin does mention it could be expensive, but the effect looks really good.
I'm sure I'll come up with some thing.
In the meantime I'll use cards from a regular deck for practice.

Jumpin' Gemini's really coming along nicely.
Kartancuntz is on going.
Wild Card... Blows them away  Got me a round of applause with the Indian waiters on Saturday night.

Just look them up on Google, you have the name of the deck you just need a merchant source or, if you'd like to save a rather huge chunk of cash, an on-line image collection that would allow you to download the right images and get them printed on the appropriate papers/card stock.

If I'm not mistaken this particular deck retails for well over $40.00 which is quite a sizable investment should you require duplicates, etc.

I do SJ , but I use the Under Cover Wallett.
Only had it a few weeks, & it's doing everything I need.

Here's a link to the wallet.

Thanks Craig,

I'm sure I'll come up with something just as visual.
Cheers.

Glad to see you like the wallet CArl. If you've not seen it already there's a variation of Beat the Devil on my site in the magician videos section called The Odd Card that I submitted to my column in The Budget years ago. I love this trick and have toyed with it since seeing Fred Kaps and Tamariz perform versions of it.

Your welcome Andy. I use it as my every day wallet.

I like this routine Andy, how do I get the workings of it please.

I don't know the workings of the trick, but reading between the lines, I wondered if this gentleman might be able to help you:

http://www.card-shark.de/index.cfm?page ... Category=3

The direct link doesn't seem to work quite right, but if you click out of the Vintage Style Effects tab (tabs are on the left), then back into it, it seems to be OK. Look for his Medieval Tarot and the extras that can be supplied.

If you insist on using the exact same type of Tarot cards as Darwin Ortiz, then you're just going to have to pay a lot!

I published it in The Budget, the magazine for the British ring of the IBM. Was a few years ago though.
