My first performance (kinda)

Postby Crimsai » Aug 23rd, '11, 23:50

My sister was round at my house for a bit and we were playing some card games, when we were finished I decided to give her a quick show case of the first few pages of the RRTCM along with a few other tricks. It went (mostly) well. I think my shuffling was a bit messy at times but she seems genuinely confused. I tried to link a few tricks together but I think I need to work on a "set list" of sorts to make it more effective.

I enjoy learning magic, but performing it so much more fun! I particularly liked the moment when she said "What? But I just watched you shuffle the cards! How is that possible".

I performed a trick to my brother for the first time a couple of days ago. The fact his first assumption was that I was using a gaffed deck told me I was doing something right. :D

I normally break the cards out after dinner with the family, to keep the kids entertained at the table. My missus can normally pick up on my (dreadful) shuffles, but I've started to introduce an equally dreadful DL to show that the selected card isn't on the top of the pack and she hasn't sussed this. I also tried an ID, which completely blew her mind (and the kids), and they all had a lot of fun with the shuffling and spreading of the imaginary cards.

I read some threads on here mentioning how powerful the effect of an ID was, and they're not wrong. Great deck to have in your arsenal. :D

We are all different, but for my two cents, the fact that you actually showed something is always a step in the right direction. The assumtion that you were using a gaffed deck tells me your presentation needs a quite a bit of work.
