I'm looking for a really good "Torn & Restored" routine.

Could some of the more experienced among us
suggest which is the best please.

Guy Hollingworths reformation. I would say it's the ultimate torn and restored routine as it's done with a signed card. You can find it at the end of his book Drawing Room Deceptions or on one of his videos, I'm not sure which. I learnt it from his book.

Well from what I gather, the video taught version was on either 'The London Collection' or 'Routines', which is actually the only two videos Guy has put out there. I'd check his site to find out which one it's taught on. I will say though that they're both not being made any more so they could be a little expencive. Also I'm not sure if they were even made onto dvd, they could both only be video. Still, definatly my favourite version out there so worth looking for. Have a look at him performing it, it's beautiful, up there in the realms of 'Shadows' by Teller.

I haven't seen this personally, but going by the name I'm assuming it's similar but maybe check out 'Counterfeit Hollingworth' by Wayne Houchin. Like I said, I can't comment on it but I know it's availible at the moment.

Mark Wilson Course in Magic has an excellent version. Easy to do and depending on your performing abilities gets great spectator reactions, (of course that can be said of anything).

Why do I like it?
A. I perform for the lay audience so they are not looking at it from a magicians perspective. Always gets a great response from that particular crowd.

if you don't mind using a gimmick mathieu bich's TnR is really pleasing on the eye!!!

but I'm becoming a bit of a purest, if that's the correct term.
I would sooner learn the routine with out the need for a Gaff.

I don't have a problem with them, so long as one can switch them out, & end clean.
Keeps the lady's thinking I have special powers.

oh it does end clean bud...... dont wanna give too much away...... as i say you do end clean, but there is a gimmick used during the routine..... you should check out the video for it!!

but i understand what you mean about the use of gimmicks, i prefer to not use them personally but with this effect it's just too good to not use in my opinion

There are so many routines out there these days, and they are pretty much of a muchness. Here's a short selection off the top of my head:

JC Wagner - Commercial Secrets (also Mike Close's Torn; a presentation for it) and One Tear at a Time
Paul Harris - Ultimate Rip Off (also check Tommy Wonder's handling)
Ben Harris - Hoodwinked (also Wink Wink in Quarks and Quirks)
Guy Hollingworth - Reformation (only in Drawing Room Deceptions, not on DVD)
John Lovick - Reparation (the first 'take' on Reformation)
Yves Domergue - Ripped and Restored
Dan Garcia - Torn and Torn 2
Kris Nevling - Million Dollar Card Trick
Chris Kenworthy - Free Formation
Dave Forrest - Star (different method to most)
Zach Allen - Heal (limited e-book, may not be around any more)
Lance Ackerman - Re-attached (another e-book)

I'm sure I've missed out a few, but I don't have everything! Find any of these (preferably three or four), learn them and then adapt to make your own handling that suits you. It's a fun journey.

I'd add a vote for Torn by Daniel Garcia. I really enjoy performing it and from my understanding it's simpler to do than The Reformation ( not that I actually know how to do that one, but I've heard it is rather complicated)

*Edit* Dave Forrest has just put out Star which looks really good also.

We all go through a 'purest' phase at some point, but just remember the most imporant thing - THE AUDIENCE DON'T CARE if you are using gaffs or not. All the audience care about is the conviction of the effect.

For all the reasons mentioned here, I use Daniel Garcia's "Torn" (not Torn 2, completely different effect) all the time. Having done Guy Hollingsworth's Reformation, I can say that it is not only easier in method, but much easier in setup and flow. With Reformation, there are multiple moments where you are "dirty", whereas Torn only has one and it is passed over in a blink of an eye. I'm not a fan of TnR's where the item starts off torn, then goes out of sight, and suddenly is restored. The piece by piece gradual restoration is more magical in my mind.
