New SEASONS Playing Cards - Feedback Requested

Postby IAmTheChin » Sep 10th, '11, 00:41

I've been working on this deck now for about a year and I've been posting this around to get some final feedback. It's pretty close to done and it's a fairly steep investment to make if I want to go about doing this. I just wanted to make sure I'm doing it right by getting feedback from forums like this, where your opinions matter most. I'd love your opinions on this.

Before I post pictures just to brief you, it's a deck set called SEASONS. One white deck (PRIMAVERA meaning Spring) and one black deck (SERONDA meaning Fall). The back design is supposed to capture the changing season, showing two seperately illustrated black and white back designs. I intend to make these on a custom matte finish embossed and gold foil letterpressed. I've looked around and I'm pretty sure that this is the first of its kind to have all 3 of these features? Usually decks are only gold foil embossed. The following pictures are only mock ups. I would be producing with the USPCC.

I tried to show the difference in the details between the black deck and the white deck.

I think it's refreshing to see a deck that's not full of skulls and blood. These designs are subtle and elegant, with an Art Nouveau feel about them. I'm not a fan of the 'negative' style of the black deck royalty. I'd like to see more. Depending on price I'd probably pick up the primavera deck

If you're planning this to be a magician's deck, then I personally would like to see some more 'hidden features' such as a subtle one-way back design, a gaffed card or two included in the deck (eg 2 extra cards are supplied; a joker with the peacock missing and a king of diamonds with the peacock in the background or something - simple gaffs, but they add some value. I've got a lot of mileage just out of having a blank-backed QH in my deck).

I never like black faces on cards, but other than that, really beautiful.

They look like quality cards. A statement Would be made if you pull a pack of those out.

I also don't like black faced cards but many people do and you are offering a choice so that's fine.

Gaff cards are a great idea. A double backer and perhaps a single mentalism card or ESP symbols with your back design would be a good selling point!!?

A beautiful looking deck. How much would these retail at in the UK?

wow..........

seriously, amazing design you've got there bud........love the whole concept of putting the boxes together to make a picture...... may sound stupid but makes people feel more inclined to buy the other box just to do it!!! lol

i agree with alec though and don't use black decks........ but as he says, there are those that do and yours are as good as, if not better than the competition out there!!

well done!! :)

The only real downside I can see to these is that if one performed with them, the spectator would assume they were a gaffed deck

I love black decks (love my arcanes) but theres something about them that stop me from using them on people ? Dunno why i just stick to red or blue bikes.

I'm not sure I agree with that.

Most British people are not even familiar with a pack of bikes so I dont think it's an issue.
I'm not so sure that lay people actually think that hard about a pack of cards. As with any ungaffed deck, the spec would be free to take a look anyway.

yeah, good point

Would depend on the audience as well, but after a few performances I'm finding a certain person always suspects "all the cards to be the same" and "marked decks" etc

I would buy them because they look nice anyway...then probably try performing with them and see what happens

No signed card or torn restored with something that beautiful though!

I think they are very beautiful objects, however, there seem to be new decks very frequently these days, so I do just question "why?"
For me, the more "normal" the faces the better. In the UK people (as Alec says) are less used to seeing cards, however I am sure that decks like this will be seen as "less normal" than a "normal" pack of Bikes.
Good luck with your project anyway.

Really like the look of them, would certainly pick myself up a deck.

However, I can't really see myself performing with them, they look to "nice"...

Yeah they'd go on my pile of "show" decks along with the arcanes and ghosts

If they retail at £2-3 a pack then I would bulk buy as long as I liked the feel of them. Trouble is, they will be around £7.
