Routine gone wrong!!

Postby MrTetley » Sep 19th, '11, 22:44

Just had my first taste of a Routine going wrong! Man it feels bad!

I was at a work conference and was doing a few things using coinvexed, my outlaw hideout and a 10p/2p penetration. All was going well when a guy I'd done the 10p/2p penetration on (from his hand) ask me to show someone else.

At this stage I had a group standing around watching. So I put the coins in the lady's hand and immediately she said "I want to check the coins!" Alarm bells started to ring but I managed to "talk her round". I counted to three, she closed her hand, but man she had sweaty hands so when she opened it the 10p/2p hadn't "penetrated". It was there for all to see. And all did see.

It's not the end of the world and my other routines still have them baffled, but It still feels bad, especially since I work with these guys. I will just have to practice some new stuff to "mess with their heads!"

Since I'm still at conference I feel I may have to show her a routine that won't go wrong. Or maybe I'm better to just leave it for now!

I think I've learnt the valuable lesson to quit while I'm ahead, and not to go near women with sweaty hands. :-)

Don't "sweat" it man. Stuff goes wrong. I often say "Well that was never going to fool you guys, was it, you're way too smart. Let me show you the real stuff" and then, because I would be a little rattled, go into a self worker that I knew I could then concentrate on the performance aspect and forget all about gimmicks or technique.

It happens to everyone. People will not remember it. Don't worry. Move on.

Happened to me on Sunday night Tj

I was doing an "Oil & Water" routine for a few of the waiters in my local Indian.
Before I new it, there was about 15 people round the table.
Silly sod, I flashed one of the red cards ( was suppose to be black)
One of the waiters emmediately picked up on it, I just finished off the routine, & ignored him.

I did say to him a little later, I'm only just learning, & things do go a little wrong sometimes.
I then did "Royal Scam" for him, & he was gob smacked.

Hasn't put me off, just made me more determined to do more.
As the old saying goes.
"We learn from our mistakes"

CArl... :D

Thanks guys. All is well again. Today I was surprised that no one even mentioned the trick that had gone wrong. They were still talking about the ones that hadn't. I left the coins out today though, but some cards/mentalism had them amazed!

I guess we tend to think about things alot more than the audience. I'm only a beginner and will always just be doing this as a hobby but it's great fun and I love the reactions of people when things go right. I guess I will learn from many more mistakes!!
