simple and totally without gimmicks. Dont even need a pen and paper!

Sorry to sound ignorant, but are you being sarcastic

Ej - this is a very old, pretty well-known, routine:

Pick a number between 1 and 10
Multiply it by 9
If it's a 2 digit number, add them together
Now subtract 5
Right, now map the result to a letter of the alphabet, where A=1, B=2 and so on
Think of a country which begins with that letter.
Take the second letter of the country and think of an animal which begins with that letter
Think of the colour of that animal...
You're thinking of a grey elephant from Denmark, right?

I'm with Mr's Voodini, Ward and the other wise fellows on this one and consider cold reading to be the strongest gimmick-less thing you can perform. In fact, my whole seance show is pretty much gimmick-less and relies on suggestion, etc though I consider it to be paranormal or occult entertainment rather than mentalism.

I tend to cringe at the word mentalism these days as it brings to mind a spotty geek with thirty seven envelopes, a gaffed calculator and a convulted routine which has an ending you can seen a mile off.

Nope, there is a Max Maven routine called Elephant in Denmark; a cute twist on an old classic found in the Annemann book on forces.

Study up on forcing techniques and then use your imagination for creating stories using them and concealing them -- obfuscating what they actually are.

Oh! I've used my own variation to the Elephant trick on radio shows many times, as a demonstration of telepathic control. . . a bloody card trick that kills!

Da Vinci (that's the second time you've misspelled it, so I assume it's not just a slip).

You seem very interested in The Da Vinci Zone, ej16. Why's that? It's very much not something that fits within this cateogry! It was a reasonably good book test that was arguably over-priced for what you got, but not a bad purchase for a working stage mentalist.
