I resisted joining up there for a long time because there is a vibe I don't like. With that said there are some good people there and people with a lot of knowledge. Eventually I did jump on the band wagon and have been posting there for some time and yes I do find it Cique but I don't really care, listen to me or not. I've been married twice I'm used to being ignored.

I find two things interesting. One is that they pretty much say the same things about this site. Two is they do have that monthly, friendly competition which I enjoy and entered once when it seemed to be lagging. Why? because it is a magic site and it is always nice, (okay not always nice) to see performances by the people you correspond with on a regular basis. Sure there is file sharing here, but more often then not what you see is a demonstration and not really an attempt at a performance.

Yes some of the routines in the competion are not great but some are, and all I have seen are supportive comments to everyone that enters. Which gets more people to get off the couch and show an effect or two. I've gotten some private messages on some of the performances asking for my honest opinion and ask for advice. Isn't that what support is all about?

So yes there are issues with both sites. And it seems to be the same complaints on both sides. I will admit that I enjoy this site more simply due to the attitude of the posters.

Didn't know there was a monthly competition on the Magic Cafe but there certainly is one over at Magic Bunny.
The Cafe is a big place whereas TM and Bunny are more intimate and you get to know people better.

I use all three as I have magical chums on all of them whose posts I enjoy reading. Some people post more on one forum than others and each have their merits.

I was actually encouraged to sign up by someone today but just tried and they appear to have closed the doors to new members.

It goes through periods of not accepting new members then is quite fussy over no free email addresses, so not hotmail.

The cafe has many issues. It has some people with superb knowledge, but then people who want to troll. The main reason for keeping an eye on it is for seeing when products are released. The spooky forum are a very nice bunch, but it still has the politics and drama that seem to part of all forums from time to time.

I thought about signing up after reading the review of Andy Nyman's Bulletproof, but I realized that that was the only good thing on there.

Dont get me wrong, im not saying the cafe is a bad place :) Its just i find it seems to have more than its fair share of cliques (is that how you spell that ?).

There are certainly some knowledgeable folk aswell. I do like popping over for a scroll through the posts, i just dont post much myself :)

No, it's cliques. Cliche is a different word.

Okay I'm getting confused. I am talking about the Magic Bunny site. No I don't like the magic Cafe, I have visited a few times and I just don't like it, sorry Cafe people.

I found the magic cafe can be ok in some places. The childrenb's forum throws up the odd interesting discussion. The mentalism is too full, with too many mental magic threads rather than true mentalism. The hypnosis forum is a battleground. But there are some guys whom I respect and enjoy their posts.

However because of the number of people using it sometimes threads can become long and full of rubbish. So sometimes people (myself included) do not read fully through a thread, and can repeat what was said before.

I also find a strongly pro-christian bias in the place, which as a non-christian I can find frustrating and offending. Having said that I was banned from the magic bunny site by a christian moderator for posting a sceptical reply to superstitious post, and I have not revisited the site since.

Imagine that, the censors are here too :?

In other words, it would seem that my honest and more scathing post on this subject was made to vanish. :x

As far as I'm aware Craig, nothing has been edited or deleted in this thread, not by me anyway.

        Added later:
I've just checked the Moderator logs for the last three days which record all the editing, deleting and banning, nothing showing there at all.

I only go on the workshop section of Magic Cafe as there are some really helpful guys on there when I have a problem with something I am building.

I used to like Magic Bunny til one of the moderators started sending me abusive emails and finally removed my access rights when I had done nothing wrong.

I now look at Talk Magic and themagicbistro which I quite like as most of the people who post are workers but it is still getting off the ground.

We certainly have a few crackpots here from time to time but the vast majority on TM are good, solid magicians of varying levels and inclinations who have respect for their fellow magi.
