Eugene Berger advocates telling the audience right at the start that, 'I have (three) things to show you'. It can be four or two, not necessarily three but in this way the audience know what to expect, they won’t wonder if you're going to go on for hours on end, and most important, they'll know when you are finished. When I do my friends and family ‘presentation’ they only get three things and, so far, I’ve had no complaints!

PS when I say 'you' I don't mean you personally so don't take offense I'm talking to anyone who is new to all this

Of course no offense taken: I AM new to all this :).

That's an interesting point of view, I'll think about it.
Also, I must admit my ignorance about Eugene Berger, could you point me to some interesting source to learn a bit about him?

I must say, I was thinking about starting with three things at a time, also because I don't want to focus on too many things to practice (which is equivalent to doing none good), but I still like to have a rough idea of the timings (this is something I have with my scientific presentations: I'm very good at estimating how long it will take to do my presentation even if I don't have the time to do proper rehearsals and would like to do it with magic as well).

So keep it coming people, it rarely if ever happened to me to learn so many things thanks to a forum...
