I just tell them that as a mentalist, I have learned how to read people. I have a routine where I am blindfolded and I ask a member of the audience to write a word on a board or flip-chart, A second person writes a number and a third draws a simple picture. Sometimes I try to add a bit of humour and combine all three into one sentence. If the first person, for example, wrote the word apple, the second person wrote the number 15 and the third drew a cat, then I might say something along the lines of: "Haven't you finished yet? My cat could have eaten 15 apples by now"
