Can someone recommend a guide for this?

I have 3.2 On my Sony Tablet but it seems very... protective?

No file manager as standard, no commaand line interface, basically it doesn't seem to want me to play with it too much.

Open to suggestions.

Can't really help, but I know that with my phone I had to download a file manager... Astro is apparantly the one of choice.

I have a Samsung tablet, and have an app called My Files, which was already on there when I bought it. This accesses all folders and files I need.
But if you want to fiddle with your tablet and do things it was not setup to do, though I have not looked into it myself, you might want to look into 'rooting'.

I too downloaded Astro. I have no file manager only file transfer.

It's not that I feel a particular need to root the thing, as I have full privaledges technically I already am root. The navigation just seems a bit unwieldy, cumbersome and downright obstructive that's all. I have experience of several different OS'es but not since Vista have I felt so much like I was being handled with cottony, over sensitive gloves.

Which reminds me of Sheldon's comment to Bill Gates in The Big Bang Theory about Vista. :D

Thinking about it, it makes sense that you have root access on a tablet. I was thinking more of a phone. I haven't had my tablet for too long and havent delved deep into it.
Android is made to be quite simple so that anyone can use it and use it easily. I haven't felt the need to access anymore than what is available.
But then again I prefer to play around with making apps for them.

I was really tempted to get the Sony tablet, I liked the look of the new 10" one. Had a little play in the shop.
I got the samsung 7" because I got a good deal on it that I couldnt refuse.

What don't you like about the navigation?

I like the honeycombe design, I guess it is mainly the file management side of things. Files come down and disappear in to an abyss. I also prefer sub-menu's and folders, so would like a little folder on my desktop called Games which has my games rather than a desktop with all my games on it.

It's probably just growing pains but before buying a tablet I thought they were little more than a gimmick and now I have one my opinion is much the same. I think I prefer my netbook but as a piece of kit to just browse the net it's not too bad I suppose.

On my phone and tablet, you are possible to make folders on the desktop.
On the desktop press Menu >> Select add >> Select Folders >> Select New Folder. You can then add shortcuts to the programs you want in that folder.
Unfortuantly you cant make it fll the folder automatically. I did not like this, and nor do I like the program file full of every program with no order to it. (My phone is in aphabetical order, but even that doesn't help too much, involves a lot of scrolling and sifting through). I have got used to this now.
I did however find a program that tried to sort programs automatically for you into catergories, or asked you for a catergory as soon as you download. Then you would need to use this program to view the catergories. I cannot however remember the name of this program.
