Addictive Television?

Postby sarah2005 » Jun 28th, '05, 15:41

Dear members, I’m Sarah and I’m writing to you because I’m trying to find brave people to take part in a sensitive television documentary for Channel 4 about modern addiction in Britain.

Do you have an unusual addiction or dependency?
Does it perhaps involve magic?
We are looking for outspoken individuals who have for whatever reason built reliance upon the less obvious, especially those things representative of busy modern living. We believe most people are closer to harbouring a dependency to things to get them through the day than they care to admit and we’re looking to investigate that.

Do you have a fascinating tale to tell?
What impact has it had on your life?
Has it ever pushed you close to the edge?
Are friends and family aware and supportive?
Have you ever sought orthodox/un-orthodox treatment?

Are you a forthright and honest individual willing to talk openly about your situation?
Can you provide genuine insight to others in a similar predicament?
Are you willing to confront your addiction?

If you’re undergoing a personal journey, and can see benefit in sharing your experiences, in so doing helping others relate to your situation, then please e-mail me, sarah@addiction.me.uk, or visit: http://www.addiction.me.uk

You might want to tell me a little:
•about yourself
•about your addiction
•about why it is important to tell your story now
•your age, gender and locality and your locality
(Your details will not be shared and all contact will be in strict confidence)

Thanks for your time.

I look forward to hearing from you.

:)

As much as I enjoy magic of many styles and varieties, I wouldn't say it was an addiction as such. OK, we all joke about C.U.P.S. but we can control it (can’t we guys? Huh, we can, can’t we?).

Cambridge Dictionary Online says:
addict
a person who cannot stop doing or using something, especially something harmful:
a drug/heroin addict
a gambling addict
HUMOROUS I'm a chocolate/shopping addict.

The reference to harmful is what worries me - I automatically associate an addict with something harmful rather than with the humorous as in 'chocolate' addicts. I can get through the day without magic so I'm not addicted - it's just something I chose and something I enjoy. (Hells bells, that sounds just like someone justifying their smoking habit!)
I give up, over to you guys! :?
