Chinese New Year

Postby jagsmagic » Jan 10th, '06, 00:47

Hi guys, has anybody focused on doing anything for the Chinese New Year?

Looks like a good start to the Year, as i have had 6 request (4 days from one customer and 2 days from another) to do some table hopping and cabaret towards the end of the month

Go out there as there is a lot of potential customers for the Chinese New Year

all the best

Ah, now then. Be careful see, because I love chinese food, and my home town has a rather lovely Chinese community doing splendid food and being fluffy, so I thought I'd learn to say hello, how are you, gosh aren't these people drunk, etc. to differnentiate myself from the usual late night drunks. I studied the BBC 2 Learning Zone (gawd bless 'em) to learn the required Mandarin and decided to try it out at the end of one drunken Saturday evening. I mean, how difficult could this be? It's just words, after all. Imagine my surprise to find that I'd learned the wrong blummin' dialect! Turns out it's Cantonese that the community around here speak. it was explained to me that, though they can understand it, they speak Cantonese. And I thought it was my pronunciation. Oh hum.

Any road up: Gung Hey Fat Choi (not sure of the spelling) is the general "Happy New Year" greeting regardless of dialect, though I'll eagerly stand corrected if anyone has a better grasp.

That's why you should learn manderin AND cantonese lol. I'm fluent in cantonese :D.

Cantonese - Gung Hey Fat Choi
Manderin - Gung Xi Fa Chai

One of our customers in Hong Kong has just wished us all Kung Hei Fat Choi so there's another slight variation to pass on!

Exactly. From Hong Kong - Cantonese! Therefore, Kung (Gung, either works... depends if you're good) Hei Fat Choi!

I only speak cantonese not manderin. I hate manderin, i don't know why, maybe it's because i cant speak it, or maybe they talk too fast. :P

Anways, Happy New Year!
