When you say crediting - are you saying you need to know who came up with specific concepts so you can credit them in your own effects?
I have come up with a few ideas for effects, nearly all of the time they don't really have legs, but I've got one idea in mind recently that I think could be marketable.
As a relative noob, I have no idea if something very similar has been done before - although I'm sure that if it has then this incarnation is still fairly unique. If something similar has been done, how do I find out if I'm to be accused of plagiarism of the method? The links above are great for telling you who came up with named effects, but what if you have created a way of doing something and don't know if you're the first?
The only way I am able to go about finding out is to ask people with a lot more experience than I to look over my ideas and see what they think? I'm currently collaborating with someone with a lot more experience than I who is adding ideas and has contacts who can look it over from a legality perspective if we decide to progress it further.
