Best Wallets

Postby CArlight1958 » Feb 9th, '12, 09:08

I was thinking of buying another wallet.

I have one "The Undercover Wallet" which is a good back pocket wallet.

However, I was wanting a breast pocket wallet.
One which is easy to load a card into, that can hold a few business cards, & also has maybe a small note pad incorporated also.

Have you chaps got any preference please.

JOL small plus wallet is in my opinion the only way to go. It the best and easiest card load and can be used with the Dave Bonsall Envelopes.

I only use this and the Stealth Assassin

Depends on your situation. I have the JOL hip pocket wallet and I like it a lot, I also have the JOL Large plus wallet and found that I didn't like the small envelopes that come with it. But like I said, it depends on your situation. Do you perform in a posh-esqe environment where having a large wallet in your jacket pocket would look par the course, or in a situation where having a hip pocket wallet would look OK.

Both are very good wallets.

Is the Hip Pocket wallet much difference to the Plus Wallet.
I have been looking at wallets for a while too, and liked the look of the Plus Small. Only thing is, I wear jeans, not tight but not as loose as a jacket.

All I want really was is a card to wallet, I don't mind palming.
Also noticed the Jardonnet Wallet, I know its a fire wallet, but is a good size and is a card to wallet.

Ooohhhh - LOOK OUT!!!!!

You've done it now; steel yourself for a glut of conflicting recommendations

My own favourites are the Black's CTW (which are discontinued, but can quite often be picked up for £10-£15, brand new), or the F1/F1 Nitro

Good luck (and may God have mercy on your soul! )

Oops? I will look at Blacks CTW, thanks. I kind of dismissed the F1 as it involved a coloured gimmick. I'd want to be able to do it with any card I had.

I didn't like the look of the real mans wallet. Its a good size, just don't like the reveal. I will look at the other one though, thanks.

I wonder if I can get the missus to buy me one for our anniversary....She can decide for me then :D

I am going to go against the grain here and say just pick one wallet and stick with it, there are too many wallets out there and most punters won't notice the difference between this or that one.

Hi Randy,

The "JOL small plus wallet" does seem like a good choice for me.
I now have several routines which need business cards, envelopes, & a small note pad, & it just seems more practical to carry
all of these items in one wallet.
It's not so much the venue, or the image. Though I do like things to look good, & if one can afford the best, then why not.
It just seems more practical to have everything in one holder.

One question I do have is.
With regards to the JOL type wallets. There's two sizes, apart from the size, do both of them have the same features?

Cheers mate.

CArl...

PS. I have tried to contact izzywizzzymagic, but the link seems to be down :(
Any advice.

I have in the past tried a few wallets:
BKM (Ballducci/ Kaps/ Mullica): Too large, too thick. Pretty poor load.
Real Man's: After keeping this in my back pocket it developed a curve that made loading nigh-impossible. I still use it as a day-to-day (normal) wallet tho' (great build quality).
JOL Hip-pocket: This is my current go-to. Not cheap, but easily the best. Great load, with very little 'get-ready' Best used with a jacket (YYMV) Will hold credit cards etc, but no room for a note pad.

I think that performing in the UK with one of the 'standard' (4" x 10") Kaps wallets is a bad move. I have never seen anyone else (under 70) with a wallet this size. Just screams 'gaffed' IMHO.

Which ever wallet you use--MAKE SURE it fits your personna.

The commercially produced wallets for magicians often look out of place if the magician is not wearing the right clothes.

Beautiful leather and often edged with 'brass' or some such metal--looks incongruous if the magican is in a tee shirt and jeans--and yes I have seen yoing magicians like this.

The only wallet I ever really used--came from Davenports years ago--via Pat Page. It was plain brown, & made in soft leather. I carried it in my pocket for ages, with cash, cards etc in it --until it looked like a real, well used wallet. It was utilised for Card in Wallet, Confabulation and a couple of other effects. My son in Portugal now has it and he uses it a lot.
