Erdnase change

Postby Alfred Borden » Feb 10th, '12, 11:39

Hey guys - I know we've had threads about this move before but am wanting some advice from you card experts out there :D

The initial push up, with the right hand palm - I'm guessing this has to be SUPER light to achieve the right results?

Pulling the card underneath down with the bottom of the palm - my hands are by no means smooth but am having real trouble with this

Also - I sometimes push more than one card up and drag more than one down!

Have been practising this for months and don't really appear to be getting anywhere...peoples thoughts?! :(

Are you watching closely? Then I'll begin...

Try pushing the card up with you little finger (or "pinky" if you're American), this often helps.

Hello Alfred,

John Carey gives a very detailed description of the move in his "Handle With Carey" dvd mate.

I get this too. If I lick the heel of my palm beforehand then I get the required grip, but obviously that would be impractical when performing. I do have quite dry hands though, and find generally that getting grip with any part of my hands is difficult (even a glide). I guess I should moisturise more.

Also - I sometimes push more than one card up and drag more than one down!

I don't get that, surely it's down to pressure? Takes hardly any to move a card so maybe you need a lighter touch.

That's a really good tip. I normally have to start with the top card moved up slightly, but that might help cover that part of the move. :)

Palm-change/ colour change - yeah I think so. See 'Nulda's Revenge' (Cardshark - book only, Darwin Ortiz, also in 'The Annotated Erdnase')

Normally I wouldn't advocate this, but there is quite a good video on the Erdnase Change on youtube by tricksterAP. I don't know if it's still on there, but that's where I learnt and I think I can do it fairly well.

If you want a proper resource, it's taught in Daryl's Encyclopedia of Card Sleights.

Also Jay Sankey teaches it on many of his DVDs.

I would agree with Lord Freddie advice push the card up with the little finger, start off with it curled then extend and the card will move into position.

I've been doing this one a lot for the past few weeks and It's one of the few I'm quite good at and find not to difficult. I use the little finger for pushing up and when I bring the other card back I use the ball of the thumb. If you push down slightly as you pull back you will hear the cards click which will teach you how far to pull back so you can keep the movement to a minimum.

As for moving more than one, I find it doesn't happen when I use new cards but other to that I guess it's just getting the pressure right.

Thanks again for all the advice guys, I have a feeling I may be doing something very simple wrong, because the more practice I put in, I don't really get any closer to perfecting this move...sitting here at work going over it and not really happening :|

It's not that hard so there must be something you're doing wrong. If it helps you can email me a video of you doing it and I'll send one over explaining it.
