I did my induction performance at a magic club yesterday to become a full member.

Well to start with I was very nervous, I've never performed outside my house but I was determined to do it.
I started with something I made myself, basically a tub which I chuck 5 coins in and shake it. You hear the coins rattling and the rattling slowly stops at which point I stop shaking and turn the tub upside down and the coins are gone.

Next I do 50p/£2 coin unique under a glass to "show the vanish in full view"

The hands are shaking a little by now.
I then do my short rope routine starting with professors nightmare, then a few bits with ends coming off and that type of thing.

Now comes the finale, My torn and restored signed magazine.
Did the routine, opened up the restored magazine page and "OOPS" I managed to do what had never happened in all the practise runs (about 100). I'd torn the wrong page and was left with the unsigned page.

I couldn't believe what I'd done but they were all cool about it and didn't make me feel stupid at all and I still got plenty of applause.

All in all I'm pleased that I got up and did it and hopefully next time will be less stressful

Yeah a great feeling isn't it.. I remember doing my performance a few years ago, was the cups and balls and coin matrix, was also scared sh....s.. what club did you perform at?

Many congrats, Shane - we all start with the shakes (and some of us still have them!!), but it sounds like you have a real buzz going on about your first performance.

How much has the experience spurred you on to get your next set ready for an outing?

Thanks Rob, The performance wasn't great to be honest and if it had been a audition for a job I'm quite sure I wouldn't have stood a chance but it's an experience that I think I'll learn a lot from.

I was most pleased that I was able to perform something I made up myself. It wasn't the best effect in the world but It had a light hearted gag to it (still work in progress) and hadn't just arrived through the post.

I really lack presentational skills which is just down to lack of confidence but I think I'm quite good with ideas so hopefully things will improve as my confidence grows.

Not that I'm the most experienced here, but it's such a buzz going up and performing!

Strangely, in some ways you learn more from the bits that didn't go so well (and this I do know from experience!)
