Kermit uses Bikes!

Postby Poppadom » Apr 10th, '12, 20:11

I thought it was worth pointing out that when I saw The Muppets at the cinema recently, I noticed that there was a well-used deck of playing cards laid out in a half-finished game of solitaire on a table in Kermit the Frog's house. I couldn't see the backs of the cards, but the box that was lying beside them looked like it bore the familiar Bicycle design. So it's reassuring to know that everyone's favourite frog has good taste in playing cards!

Not surprising seeing as the Muppets are American. A large majority of American film and tv in which cards are depicted use bikes. Everything from Laurel and Hardy to Friends to now The Big Bang Theory. If you're a horror fan you may also remember the Pennywise cards in Stephen Kings ''It'' - these were specially printed cards made by the USPCC. The backs were a modified bike design in red, depicting Pennywise in the centre.

While were on the subject - i did mention this a while ago but cant find the thread. The new box design is a mixture of features of the last design (before the change), and the boxes from the 1920s. In one of Laurel and Hardys early silent shorts - the name of which escapes me at the moment - the box design of the time can be clearly seen. If you were to blend this with the last boxes you'd have the new design :).
