Workshops

Quick question, if you were thinking of attending a workshop on a magic topic, which topic/aspect of magic would you like to see covered by that workshop?

I think that something focused on showmanship and presentation would be really nice to see.

Yes, and framing and meaning as well...

I'd go with that too.

In addition I think if I were to attend workshops it would mostly be based on who they were run by, ie absolute masters of a particular 'field'. I'd attend a workshop by Docc Hilford on equivoque at the drop of a hat, but not necessarily by Lee Smith (sorry Lee!).

All excellent points, what I was trying to get at was the actual subject of the workshop - cards, coins, rope , cups & balls, linking rings and so on. Mentalism and Bizarre are very wide subjects but might also be possible.

Close-up billet work.

I'd love to actually spend time watching someone perform and learning their nuances of performing peeks and reads in a close-up setting. I have never had the opportunity to watch someone else perform these type of effects and I think seeing it done would really boost my confidence in performing them.

I suspect a lot of the lessons to learn would be about effective routining to create moments of misdirection or logical motivations for moves, but yeah, that would be my dream workshop.

a workshop focusing on the theatre of magic would be invaluable. A look into magic focused acting, how to build a character and present that character. How to build a routine around that character and most importantly, how to interact with and entertain your audience.

So, apart from Billet work, no takers for workshops on physical skills?

Of all the lectures i've attended the ones on "theory" were certainly the most engaging and interesting.
However physical skill workshops are also useful and entertaining.
I would suggest any kind of card work. I'm sure there are a lot of card workers here who would be interested in anything card related.
Maybe find out via a poll what specific area of cards to go with.

I think a workshop on audience management would be a good thing. Kind of what to do and what not to do with certain types of audience members.
