There are always those that feel it's ok to just hand out the secrets of our craft, the very tools of our trade, but these poor, wretched souls will never realise the true wonder and mystery that is magic.

But as long as there are innovative performers, as long as there are magicians who are able to put a smile on the faces of their audiences and create a sense of wonder then magic will always live on.

Many magicians are the most indiscreet people on earth whose ego can't help overtaking any discretion in the urge to prove how clever they are. I've dropped many from Facebook because they think if you post a picture of your set-up its a "name the prop, smart ass" contest and blurt exposure everywhere. The same people that whinge if the T-T is exposed in a newspaper supplement but think its ok to expose somewhere which it could be seen for eternity.

I'm very tempted to post a picture of some obscure Victorian medical or agricultural implement, suggesting it's part of an old magic routine and see how many eejits claim to know exactly what it is and how it works....

Yup. I suspect that they are the same sort of "magicians" who will try to ruin another magician's act if called up on stage.

A couple of years ago, I saw a forum thread (not on a magic website) about the televised version of one of Derren's shows. Two or three "magicians" were dropping hints and revealing bits, all in an effort to look cool and clever in front of the ladies (it was mainly women who were posting on this thread).

"Please tell me how it was done! I just can't get my head round it, and I have to know."

"Drop me a PM and I'll explain."

Pathetic.

On a certain other forum you'd certainly have at least 10 people explaining how it works and how they have one just like it, but better.

There are a lot of questions about magic on Quora. Most of the stupid questions get appropriate answers.

Also, "all intensive purposes"?

Best reply/theory on that discussion:

How did the Beat Freaks levitate the Magic Ball(America's best dance crew)?

Oh I totally missed 'intensive' purposes. Glad you pointed it out as I got a good chuckle out of it. So do people actually know what they are saying, or even trying to say or do they just parrot what they hear and hope it all works out?

Great - haven't seen that one before.
Probably best to put it on a "pedal stool", next to a "communal garden" "damp squid"!
