£2/50p coin extraction from emagictricks

Postby Alternator » Jun 18th, '12, 13:31

I have just received my coin extraction a few days ago and i feel that the 50p might be easily spotted. Does anybody else feel this? The 50 pence just doesn't look convincing with mine, it looks like there is another coin under it on a couple of the sides. What are your views on this if you have the coin extraction? Is it possible I may have one with a fault?

Any ideas guys? Can anyone comment on the Alakazam version? Do you think I would be able to return the coin extraction back to emagictricks? I'm not sure what the returns policy is for magic products but u feel £40 is a lot to spend on something I don't feel I can use.

Without seeing the items you received its difficult to advise. The set I bought from emagictricks looks convincing enough to be used in performance - bear in mind that the specs will be seeing a 50p coin and a £2 coin, nothing else. The way you use the items will have great bearing on what is seen and not seen, you don't need to leave them in full view for hours on end, just handle the coins as you would any other coins and only place them on the table or performance mat for the minimum amount of time. I've not seen the ones from anywhere else but, logically, they can't be vastly different.

The 50p is set of centre so it looks like its sat on another coin with some of he gimmick showing around 3 of the sides. I've been in contact with emagic tricks to see if I can get an exchange and am awaiting a reply. Other than the coin being offset it seems to be very well made which is a shame.

In this case, yes - you need a replacement from them, no question (and no wonder you find your set less than convincing  ).

My set, and that of everyone else I know who's bought a copy is VERY convincing, and beautifully made. It sounds as though you've just been a little unlucky to get a dud set.

Got 2x £1/1p Gibson units and these are flawless. Wish he still made them in £2 coins

After reading a recent thread, the coin unique effect, which I had constantly seen on ebay, and had for all this time overlooked, piqued my interest, and I stumbled on the £2 / 50p coin unique / extraction effect, which appeals due to the impossibility of different coin shapes. Whilst it has been done before, I do want to combine this with a coin under watch, an effect I have yet to learn, but know that with practice the end result will play well.

I mainly want the spectator to close their fist around the two coins, and for one coin to disappear.

Initially, I assumed that you pay for what you get, and coming in at higher end was Alakazam's £45 coin extraction, although online comment refers to how the quality of the Alakazam coins are not as good, with some rattling of coins. Emagictricks is substantially cheaper, and the comments from those on this site, which I value, suggest that emagictricks is the better option. The emagictricks site also refers to how you can perform this in silence, although there is ambiguity as to whether this simply refers to not needing patter due to the visual strengths. Is this correct?

I did see other cheaper versions, with one for £35.95 (I won't say as it is not one of the TM sponsors / advertisers) and another for £30, although I can't seem to find the latter site again, annoyingly. All prices were for the £2/50p gimmick.

For the sake of £2 - £8 I will happily go for the emagictricks coin extraction, but the £30 option is tempting. Are there differences in the quality of the gimmicks, or are they all produced by the same company and just sold at different prices?

Any help would be appreciated.

"Corporate Close Up" has pretty much this routine. I'd be a obit concerned about putting the gimmick into a civ's hands displaying both coins but I'm probably being over paranoid.

All I can say is that my emagictricks coin extraction still looks kosher and works perfectly. I usually waffle on a bit whilst using it so the question of 'noise' doesn't crop up but it's as quiet as you can get. The usual two coins under tumbler routine is totally silent and any noise is covered by the clinking of coin against glass. Laying one coin on the other will create the same noise as using two genuine coins so that's OK.

Thanks Mandrake. I ordered this a few days ago from emagictricks and keep having that disappointment on getting home of finding out that it has not arrived yet. Hopefully tomorrow! Feeling extravagant, I also ordered Coin Under Watch by Pearlman, which should really complement it.

I ordered their 10p/2p version which is on special offer, sadly it's out of stock but will be despatched in a few day's time. I can be patient... I can, I know I can..... I think I can....
