Basic walk around card effect

Postby craigie » Jul 24th, '12, 00:14

I practice sleights day in day out and work hard on many complicated ones but recently when Im asked to show a group of people a trick I came up with this (please tell me if people have done similar as Im sure they have) .

3 spectators select and sign their cards, I then control them top the top. I then DL and turn over the cards to show one of the spectators cards has 'jumped to the top'. Then I TL and do a shake colour change to show another spectators card then place them back on the deck and DL and shake change again to show the third.

For some reason for something so simple it impresses the hell out of people and it incorporates a lot of different people. Does anyone know of any similar routines or maybe another way I could produce the third spectators card bearing in mind that the final card to be revealed is the second card down in the deck with a face up card on top. At first I was hessistant about doing the same colour change twice but I think that it eliminates the idea from the spectators mind that I had 2 cards because a spectators logic would be:

If he changed the first card to the second card, picking up the second card and repeating the move would bring the first card back.

Your thoughts would be appreciated

I've actually been mucking about with this plot lately. The basic idea is pretty old. There are dozens of ways this can be accomplished, its essentially just two colour changes. For example - TL showing first selection, Erdnase to second, TL, remove top card card and rub on sleeve and reveal the third card. Just think colour change.

I could'nt agree more Steve
Lee's "Step System" Vol 1&2 contain some really strong magic.

"Business Lunch" is in my wallet all the time. Top drawer magic

if you didnt want to do the same colour change, you could catch a double, and braue reverse both cards into the middle, which would leave the last card face up in the deck

Someone showed me a beauiful effect the other day, the first card effect to turn me into a fan of card magic, and it was so simple. DL turnover, get the spec to memorise the card, DL turnover again and put the top card into the deck, sticking out half way. Then DL turnover again to show the new top card. At this point push the card sticking out square with the deck, DL turnover and put the top card into the deck halfway down. Then you do a magical action, he had a clever flourish but I just flick the card sticking out. Then you can turnover the top card to show that it is the card you just stuck in the deck, and take out the one stuck out to show that it's the one you lost in the deck.

Net effect : you go back in time 10 seconds. Presentationally it's brilliant, and very quick.
