Hello,
I've been offered a paid gig (I don't know how much yet or whether or not this event will be worth my while) performing at a care home for olderly people (or "persons of the twilight", to use the politically correct term).
My question is, which specific routines - magic or mind reading - to perform?
All people are different, but it would probably be safe to assume that at least some of the punters will have poor eyesight, so I shan't be performing one of my faves, Radical Dice.
Anyone on here have experience working with or performing for those old enough to be in a care home?
I've read this highly useful thread here
ftopic32001.php" target="_blank
which is mainly about whether or not you should perform at such a gig, and about the KIND of stuff you should perform, but I'm hoping to come up with a list of specific effects/routines, and keep updating the list below in this first post if anyone has any suggestions. It could work as a quick reference for anyone who is offered such a gig.
Would sponge balls work? ("I'd rather not cup your balls, son. They appear somewhat sweaty." "I was nervous, I was fiddling with them all the way here.")
This is the list so far:
* FIBRE OPTICS; cut and restored rope; other visual rope magic
* SLYDINI SILKS; visual silk production, change, vanish
* a torn and restored photo such as TORN 2 PIECES; torn and restored newspaper
* NANA'S NECKLACE by Dean Dill
* chop cup; cups and balls
* linking rings
* coin vanishes with large coins, at least half dollar size; visual fun with the muscle pass
* egg bag
* cards: light hearted jumbo card routine; possibly something visual with regular cards, e.g. triumph, for some audiences
* MOJOE by John Kennedy (maybe?)
