pens - wrtite/don't write

Postby kevmundo » Dec 23rd, '12, 21:51

Does anyone know where you can get hold of a multi-function pen with a write/don't write facility? I know you can just buy multi-function pens and kill one of the inks, but where in the world can you buy one that doesn't look like a gigantic gimmick????

I just want a normal looking pen but it seems they don't exist anymore???

Any ideas??? :(

I wanted a biro with a similar functionality not that long ago and ended up creating my own, double-ended gimmick. Take a normal, opaque pen and chop a bit off the blank end. Chop the nib element from another identical pen and stick it on the other end. Now you have a pen you can 'switch' between by swapping the cap to either end.

Admittedly, not knowing the effect you're trying to pull off this might not be that suitable but thought I'd offer it up as a suggestion.

i guess you could make something yourself. I have in my mind a double ended Biro. One end writes, the other doesn't.Its made by inserting 2 short pens into a piece of rigid tubing. you hide the existence of one end, by hiding it inside the cap.I don't think such a thing exists at the moment, but i am sure it would work.
you can get the tubing in b & q
was typing at the same time as above. :)

you're like Yoda.you dont say much, but what you do say is worth listening to....

I have a pen which is about twenty years old. It is a standard looking metal pen of normal thickness. Where it normally would screw together this doesn't - turning it one way swaps nibs as quick as a flash. The pen contains two insides, one black the other blue.

If these are still available it may be an option for your effect. Sorry but I don't know where I got it.

That's exactly what I want but you can't get them anywhere! :( I think they used to be called chromatic pens but the company went bust. If you go online you can buy them but they're mega expensive as they're collectable. Other pens with this function are normally oversized plastic bits of tat. I've taken to using a pen switch which I won't go into but things would run much smoother if I could eliminate the switch. If anyone knows of a company knocking out this style of pen then do let me know!

Lamy make these. You can buy a range of nice looking multi-colour pens made by them in various designs. As stated above you just have an empty refill as one of the colour options.
You can buy Lamy pens in Harrods, WH Smiths used to sell them, or various places online.

Some examples:

Hope this helps.

Thanks, but seriously I wouldnt buy a Lamy online without first going to a dealer to look and handle the various designs on offer to find which one is the best for you. They come in a range of different designs.

Ill see if I can find a local dealer. Normally they sell them in those annoying plastic cases that you can't open without a chainsaw!

No no, if you go to a proper Lamy dealer they will show you their display items. If you are near Cambridge then there is this place in the Grand Arcade:
http://www.penshop.co.uk/products/lamy/" target="_blank

Otherwise if you are in London go to the Lamy dealer at the pen department in Harrods.
