How long have bicycle cards been around ??

Postby moonbeam » Apr 13th, '13, 18:08

There's a film on Film 4 at the mo - Silent Running (1972) and the guy on the spaceship has just started playing poker with his robot friends ....... and yea, you guessed it, they're playing with red bikes ...... I just wondered how long bicycle cards have been oround for ??

QUESTION:
If we can sue McDonalds for making us fat and cigarette companies for giving us cancer; why can't we sue Smirnoff for all the ugly gits we've sh*gged ??

1867

I looked it up on the internet. The first five hits said 1867 so I'm thinking 1867

While not the actual subject of this thread, this may be of interest to some. I mentioned this some time ago but can't find the post.

I'm a big Laurel and Hardy fan. On one of their early silent shorts from the twenties (I can't remember which one now) there is a nice close-up shot of a Bicycle card box. The new box design - released not so long ago - seems to be a mixture of features from the twenties box and the last design we had, before the change.
If you took both boxes and combined them, you'd probably come up with something pretty close to the current design

They are not around, they are rectangle.

Hope this helps.
